A Letter from our President
Aloha friends!
We are in full swing at the rescue. It's raining dogs like our weather lately. We wish we could take them all in, but our facility is limited and so are our wonderful foster homes. But be assured, as soon as one lucky dog gets adopted, we take in one or more to fill that vacancy. This is why we sometimes have to say that we're "full". We do our very, very best to help. We help our community, Animal Control, and we always take back any dog that originally came from us due to unforeseen circumstances (see our two spotlighted below). We hold adoption events, advertise our dogs and their information on social media, and of course, our website has all of our adoptable dogs. We are always looking for great homes, either fur-ever homes or foster homes, for all of our lucky dogs. Please contact us and fill out an application, if you're able to help. We'd like to "march" these dogs out of our facility and right into new homes this month!

SPOTLIGHT ON ADOPTABLE DOGS...
|
Mama Ginger
- Female
- 7 Years Old
- 40 lbs.
- Pit Mix
- Brown
- House Trained
| | | |
You may remember Mama Ginger. We found her with 9 puppies in the forest back in 2022. Well, she found her way back to us due to no fault of her own. Sometimes circumstances are unforeseen, and we are happy she is back with us so we can assure her a fur-ever home. Mama is house trained and not an excessive barker. She is a wee bit of about 40 lbs. and will give you a double high-5! Her lucky day will be the day she finds a real fur-ever home she can call her own for the rest of her life.
DID YOU KNOW???
March is Poison Prevention Awareness Month!
- Be wary of plants - (here are a few) aloe vera, ivy, jade, philodendron, bird of paradise, pathos, elephant ear, peace lily, angel's trumpet, anthurium, hydrangea, poinsettia.
- Be careful of harmful foods - chocolate, xylitol (sugar substitute), coffee beans, grapes & raisins, onions, alcohol, macadamia nuts, salt, yeast foods, and spoiled foods.
- Keep medications safe - prescriptions, OTC meds, vitamins, ibuprofen.
- Keep outdoor hazards out of reach - chemicals, fertilizers, antifreeze, baits for rat, mouse, slug/snail & ant.
- Keep away from poisonous cane toads.
If you suspect your pet has been poisoned, call your veterinarian immediately. You can also call (for a fee) ASPCA 24/7 Poison Control Hotline 888-426-4435 or the Pet Poison Helpline at 800-213-6680.

Flap Jack
- Male
- 4 Years Old
- 54 lbs.
- Brown
- Pit/Foxhound Mix
- Shy/Not Hyper
| |
| | |
Flap Jack is also a return visitor. Again, through no fault of his own, but we are happy to help him again. He's a good boy who is house trained, loves other dogs and not hyper. Sounds perfect, right? His lucky day will be the day he's adopted also. His family will have to understand that he can be a little shy at first, but once he knows he has a fur-ever home, he would love snuggles.
A Heartwarming Tail....
This is Lexington and her new mama, Chloe. You see, Chloe found Lexington while visiting our island and wanted to adopt her. It didn't matter that Chloe lives in Kentucky. After Lexi was spayed and safe to travel, we made the arrangements for her flight to a neighboring state. Chloe paid for the adoption, the flight, boarding, and made the trek to pick Lexi up. Lexington is finally home where she will be loved and spoiled.
This is why we love rescue!

FOSTERS and POTENTIAL FOSTERS
The Role of a Foster with Aloha Ilio Rescue...
We rely on our fosters because it's best for the dogs and also, we are able to intake more dogs than our facility can accommodate. The rescue pays for all medical bills, including spaying and neutering, monthly medications and vaccinations. The rescue pays for puppy pads, formula, and even puppy food. We ask our fosters to take the dog to vet appointments, adoption appointments and events. It's helpful if a foster trains the dog with anything lacking in their skills - such as potty training, sit, and leash walking. If you're unable to provide food, we can assist there also. Going away? - we will board the dog until your return. Pictures! Take lots of pictures and update us on the dog's personality so we may enhance the dog's profile in our system and social media pages. We do ask for a three month commitment so that there's reasonable time for us to advertise the dog and show the dog to potential adopters. Appointments are at our facility and not at your home.
Contact us if you're interested in becoming a foster. We have a foster application on our website. We also have a foster FaceBook group called "AIR Fosters" to help support and share with our active fosters.
