Feast of Absalom Jones Coming Up at St. Matthias

In collaboration with St. Matthias Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina will hold a celebration for the Feast of Absalom Jones.

The Rt. Rev. Bishop José A. McLoughlin will be the celebrant and will be assisted by the rector of St. Matthias, the Rev. Francis King, and Archdeacon the Rev. Brenda Gilbert. The speaker will be Mark Andrew Jefferson, Ph.D. This program is part of the diocese’s mission to build beloved community in Western North Carolina.

Safe Church Administrator Virtual Support Session Upcoming

Does your parish have a Safe Church administrator? Do they need training and support to help your church ministry leaders and volunteers complete the online safe church training?

Canon Augusta is offering a session to support local parish safe church administrators in using the online modules hosted by Praesidium Academy. This support and training session will last only one hour. Zoom link will be sent to those registered.

Catherine Meeks Retires from the Absalom Jones Center

Nearly 200 Episcopalians gathered Jan. 4 in person at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and online to honor Catherine Meeks, founder and executive director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing. The gathering was a celebration of Meeks’ dedication to dismantling racism in the Atlanta metropolitan area and churchwide for more than four decades.

Neighboring Diocese to Host Cursillo Weekend

The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina is again conducting a Cursillo weekend, April 11-14, 2024. It will be held at Camp Walter Johnson, Lexington, N.C. Cursillo is a Diocesan program and is an opportunity for Episcopalians seeking to grow their faith to meet and learn together. At Cursillo you will experience the gift of God’s love through shared prayer, worship, study and fellowship. For more information contact Ann Lockhart and visit nccursillo.org for an application to attend.
