St. Gabriel's Completes Kitchen Remodel

With the help of a grant from the Episcopal Foundation of Western North Carolina and others, St. Gabriel's in Rutherfordton has updated the Jericho Road Soup Kitchen to better accommodate the increasing demand for a hot meal. The kitchen began more than twenty years ago as a ministry to the community by the late Rev. Dn. Bobby Lynch and his wife, Helen Lynch. Each week the kitchen serves about 200 residents of Rutherford County. The congregation of St. Gabriel's extends a heartfelt thank you to all who helped to make this remodel a reality.

Hello from sunny Camp Henry!

We are halfway through the summer season here at Camp Henry and every single week has been filled with joy, laughter, and unconditional love! Our theme this summer is “When the Saints Go Marching In” and our chaplains each week have helped us understand what it means to be a saint and how to care for ourselves, our neighbors, and God’s creation.

We have spent hours in the newly renovated Boojum, playing games like pool and ping-pong, role-playing during Dungeons and Dragons, and hanging out on the couches during Canteen.

This year was the 2nd annual Bilingual Camp here at Camp Henry, and we had a fantastic session! We were overjoyed to have over 60 campers and families join us. This session was full of singing and silliness; we even made up a new camp dance! We can’t wait for Bilingual Camp next summer!

To keep up with the happenings at Camp, check out our website for more information on what we do, who we are, and how you can get involved. Sail Forth!

Good News Gardens Field Days Rescheduled to September

A time to connect with each other and learn about what it means to be “Good News” in Creation—including topics of botany, gardening, climate justice, and green burial

Join us on September 22-24, 2024 at Kanuga in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Mallory McDuff as our keynote speaker on Wednesday evening. Mallory will speak to the intersection of agrarian ministry-church and stewardship-creation care.

St. John’s in the Wilderness, Flat Rock, NC, will join us in sharing news of their volunteer work in Kanuga’s Foster Education Garden. We will also hear from Delia Jovel Dubon from Tierra Fértil Coop, a Hispanic, worker-owned farm cooperative partnering with Western North Carolina’s Episcopal Churches in food ministry.

Immerse yourself in a variety of engaging activities, from forest bathing and sound baths to music and stories around the fire. We'll also share a farm-to-table supper in the garden, fostering a sense of community and time to reflect on how to apply our learning.

New Book Shares History, Stories from The Church of the Advocate

"Through the Red Door" tells the story of The Church of the Advocate, a diocesan homeless ministry housed in the undercroft of Trinity Church, Asheville. Since 1997, this ministry has stood in solidarity with Asheville's materially poor, creating relationships across boundaries. Author, The Rev. Dr. Dena Bearl Whalen, a priest in the Episcopal Church for 31 years, brings her extensive experience in parish churches, Episcopal schools, urban cathedrals, and diocesan leadership to this inspiring narrative. The Rev. Dr. R. Scott White, Rector of Trinity Church, praises the book as a gripping narrative of faith, dedication, and community. "Through the Red Door" is available now. All proceeds support The Church of the Advocate.

Please add Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe to Weekly Prayers

Please join us in giving thanks for 28th Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe and his family. Rowe will begin in his role as the face and voice of the Episcopal Church on Nov. 1. In addition to your weekly prayers for Bishop José and our current Presiding Bishop, Michale Curry, Bishop José asks that all congregations add our Presiding Bishop-elect to the prayers of the people.
