Written by Ed Pickford, who hails from the UK, “Worker’s Song (Handful of Earth),” describes the plight of the working class in blunt, bleak, and stark detail.

“Come all you workers who toil night and day

By hand and by brain to earn your pay

Who for centuries long past for no more than your bread

Have bled for your country and counted your dead

Aye, the factories and mills

The shipyards and mines

We've oft been told to keep up with the times

But our skills are not needed now for they've streamlined the job

With lawyers and computers our lives they'll rob

Ah but when the sky darkens and the prospect is war

They'll give us a gun and push us to the fore

And expect us to diе for the land of our birth

Although we nevеr owned one handful of earth”

“The ‘Worker’s Song’ is the most beautifully written love song to the dignity of humanity that has ever been penned,” says Cashville Trash Pandas' lead singer and guitarist, Jubal Lee Young. “The exploitation of the worker by the elite class is a tale as old as time, and you would think we’d have sorted it by now, but as the song says, ‘the race is not run.’”

“Worker’s Song (Handful of Earth)” has been recorded by other artists, including the most well-known version by the Dropkick Murphys. But The Cashville Trash Pandas truly make it their own. Opening with pounding bass guitar and drums the track is underpinned by jangly electric guitars that offer the perfect showcase for the edgy vocals intensely delivered full-throated by Young. It’s urgent, loud, and in your face. It’s the protest song for the common man. It’s perfect. It’s now. It’s needed.

The Cashville Trash Pandas are Jubal Lee Young on guitar and vocals (Jubal’s late father was country singer-songwriter Steve Young, who penned “Seven Bridges Road,” and many other notables), Chuck Sigler on drums, Mike Carty on bass, and Max Williams on guitar. Young and Sigler met and played in a band while they attended the same high school in Nashville, Tenn. in the mid-1980s. That band only dissolved when Sigler moved to Mississippi for college. Many years later, and through another high school classmate, Young met bassist Carty. Sigler and Williams also share a musical history, as they are both members of the legendary Kudzu Kings out of Oxford, Miss. A lot of life, bands, things, and stuff later, these four young lads – Young, Sigler, Carty, and Williams – have formed a veritable neo-cowpunk, alt-country, outlaw supergroup. It’s raw. It’s real. It’s twangy, but it rocks.
