April News and Updates from the Office of Alumnae Relations

Letter from the President

Dear Alumna,

Spring is always a busy yet exciting time at Catholic High as we wrap up the school year with many of our end of year traditions! We look forward to celebrating our students at the Miss Catholic High Assembly, honoring Mary at May Crowning, and saying one last goodbye to the Class of 2026 at the Senior Picnic and Farewell. In less than a month, the Class of 2026 will graduate at The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen and will officially become alumnae of The Catholic High School of Baltimore!

This edition of the Alumnae Monthly Update shares many alumnae highlights and upcoming reunions. You will also find ways to stay connected and support Catholic High by participating in our Spring Fling on next Friday and annual Cub Classic Golf Outing in June. Thank you for all you do to support our mission of empowering young women!

A Passion for Writing

Kathy Wielech Patterson's '83 Baltimore roots have played a major role in her writing career! She has recently published Killer Sillage under the pen name Kat LaGue. Killer Sillage is the first book in a cozy mystery series, which takes place right here in Baltimore. The series follows Clare Buchowski, owner of a Fells Point perfume shop called Good Scents, who has a knack for finding herself in the middle of murder investigations. The second book in the series, Savage Gourmand, will be released soon while the third book, A Murderous Accord, is already underway! Kathy's books blend mystery with a love of fragrance, food, and the city. Kathy even mentions that Baltimore readers may recognize a few familiar places and flavors along the way.

Her creative background and graphic design degree from MICA has helped her design book covers and promotional items for her novels.

Prior to writing fiction, Kathy and her husband co-authored three books on Baltimore restaurants and the Chesapeake Bay. She is currently loving the challenge of Fiction writing and looks forward to writing many more books in her new series!

Check out Kathy's series on Amazon below!

Three Alumnae Speak at College & Career Presentation

Catholic High was thrilled to welcome back Emma Lyles '21, Kayleigh Eckles '20, and Tochi Nwachinemere '20 for a College and Career Panel on April 13! These three alumnae have truly let their light shine since graduating and were excited to share their recent experience with our young women.

Emma completed her undergraduate degree at Stevenson University in three years and is currently attending law school at University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Kayleigh studied mathematics at Saint Joseph's University and is now working as an Audit Staff member at the Big Four accounting firm, Deloitte. Tochi graduated from UMBC with a degree in Biological Sciences and is currently majoring in Neuroscience at Rutgers University to prepare for medical school.

We are so grateful to these inspiring alumnae for returning to empower the next generation of Catholic High young women to pursue their passions with confidence!

The Alumnae Giving Project

During the month of April, we received a lovely thank you letter from the Archdiocese of Baltimore Grief Ministry and part of the letter states, "Please accept our sincere gratitude for the Giant gift cards to support our work. We are grateful to the TCHS Alumnae Giving Project for your long-standing and faithful support. Your continued generosity reflects a deep commitment to compassion, justice, and care for our most vulnerable neighbors."

The first picture shows the items that were used to fill 60 Easter goodie bags for retired nuns at Stella Maris. The second picture reveals the finished Easter goodie bags that were delivered to a nursing home for the 35 residents who have no family.

Exploring the Archives

Catholic High had the pleasure of welcoming Sr. Helen Jacobson '66 and her lay associate, Ms. Alexis Jeminez who traveled from the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia Our Lady of Angels Motherhouse to speak with students in our Law & Leadership in the Franciscan Tradition Program.

Both Sr. Helen and Ms. Jeminez discussed the rich history of the Franciscan Sisters and highlighted the importance of archives in order to tell a story. It is inspiring to know that our young women are living history of our beloved institution!
