February News and Updates from the Office of Alumnae Relations

Letter from the President

Dear Alumna,

The Catholic High community began the month of February by celebrating Black History Month and raising funds for Catholic High's Green & Gold Fund at the annual Valentine's Day Dance-A-Thon. On February 27, we had the pleasure of welcoming new Daughters of Catholic High, the Class of 2030, at our Welcome Soirée! As Spring approaches, I extend an invitation for you to join us at our annual Wine Tasting & Dinner and this year's Spring production, Frozen, The Broadway Musical. I look forward to seeing you at one or more of our events this Spring!

Lux Tua Luceat,

Barbara D. Nazelrod, Ph.D. '68

Alumnae News and Events

First-Year College Student Wins First Place in Competition

Sofia Schisler '25, a current freshman at University of Maryland, recently took home 1st Place with her all-freshman team in the University of Maryland Deloitte National Undergraduate Case Competition! Her team will represent UMD at the national competition in Texas in March. Sofia is a proud member of the Interdisciplinary Business Honors Program at UMD and thanks the program for allowing her to partake in such a formative experience!

Future Researcher

Magdalen (Maggie) Ruth '24 is a sophomore at UMBC majoring in Biological Sciences with minors in Chemistry and Music. Now entering her fourth semester, she has balanced rigorous coursework with hands-on research as an undergraduate researcher in the Koirala Lab, where she works on identifying potential antiviral therapy targets for viruses in the Picornaviridae family.

In addition to her lab work, Maggie has presented her research at two scientific conferences, one at UMBC and another in San Antonio, TX, gaining invaluable experience in the scientific community. Her college journey has been strongly supported by the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, which has provided not only financial assistance, but also mentorship, academic coaching, research opportunities, and travel funding.

Through the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, Maggie has grown as a student and researcher, gaining confidence and realizing that a future in STEM is both achievable and exciting. Her continued success at UMBC reflects the strong academic foundation fostered in the classroom at Catholic High!

The Alumnae Giving Project

During the month of February, the Alumnae Giving Project reached out to two groups to help them celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Goodie bags were delivered to 56 retired sisters who are being cared for at Stella Maris. We received a lovely thank you card with the assurance that Catholic High alumnae are being remembered in their daily prayers.

Goodie bags were also delivered to a nursing home for 35 of their residents who have no family. The bags were filled with candy, crackers, chips, cereal bars and cookies for all to enjoy!

Fondly,

Bonnie Lee '60
