Belen Mella

As we wrap up financial literacy month, we want to introduce you to Belen Mella, a former Women of Tomorrow mentee and now a proud member of our Alumnae Network. She was born in Santiago, Chile and grew up here in South Florida. Belen was awarded a scholarship to attend Harvard University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies. Today, she is a venture capital investor at Thrive Capital, an investment firm that builds and invents in internet, software, and technology-enabled companies in New York City.

Belen has worked with multiple companies worldwide including

an internship for Mobile World Capital Barcelona, as a project manager

and debate coach for Sunrise International Education in Beijing.

She was also a member of the development team in HACIA (Harvard Association Cultivating Inter-American Democracy) where she organized conferences in Colombia, Panama,

and the Dominican Republic.

In her current role at Thrive, she identifies and invests in technology companies all over the world! To continue to grow professionally, Belen strives for an environment that is consistently challenging her.

She remembers waking up before dawn to tutor kids in China, sacrificing weekends to travel with the debate team she coached, and working "gigs" that ranged from theatrical guided tours to cleaning toilets for move-in day. These experiences helped mold her into the woman she is today.

" Women of Tomorrow

gave me a regular cadence on which to step back from the day to day of high school. It allowed me to reflect on the bigger themes of life; professional goal setting, and the evolving nature of womanhood.

Most importantly, it created a warm and familiar discussion forum for some of these big themes that helped forge and strengthen bonds with other women at my school and in my community.  "

-Belen Mella

In her personal time, Belen makes every effort to be loving and present for her family, aiming to provide for them so they have the material freedom to pursue whatever makes them happy.
