Mentoring opportunities available through Penn State's LionLink

Are you interested in participating in a rewarding mentoring program? Penn State Schuylkill's Mentoring Program will match alumni to current Penn State Schuylkill students by discipline.

Alumni who choose to be mentors can set the guidelines for how frequently they need to meet with their mentee, and how they would like to track their mentee's progress. To become a mentor, alumni have to sign up via LionLink and can connect their existing LinkedIn profile to do so.

The process of becoming a mentor will be as follows:
  • Alumni can sign up to be mentors until September 29.
  • Alumni will be matched with a Penn State Schuylkill student in early October.
  • A kick-off event for mentors/mentees will be held on October 18.
  • The mentoring program will conclude in April.

Please reach out to Abbie Kaiser with questions.

Alumni Corner

Welcome to the Alumni Corner: check out this month's Alumni Insights featuring alumnus Domenico Callipari

We caught up with alumnus Domenico Callipari to chat about his journey throughout his undergraduate studies and beyond. Domenico attended Penn State Schuylkill and graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's in business.

Q: How has your Penn State Schuylkill education played a role in your career?

Callipari: I graduated at a time where it was extremely difficult to get a job, especially freshly out of college. A lot of my peers needed to take jobs that were in vastly different fields than they got their degree in. I feel in part because of my degree from Penn State, I was able to get a job in the business field and stay within my field of interest. I think having my Penn State network helped me stay in the direction I wanted to be in.

Q: What is your current job? What are the most rewarding and challenging areas of your career?

Callipari: I work for End Point Clinical as a senior director of business development. I've been in this role for about two years now! My company sells clinical trial software, which I've been doing for a decade. The most rewarding part of my career is positively impacting the healthcare industry with new and advanced clinical softwares. It's great to know that healthcare technology is constantly improving.

The most frustrating piece to my career, is that the clinical trial software field has become very oversaturated. We're constantly competing against new technology vendors and doing similar things to other vendors, so overlap is bound to happen. This is just a new challenge for us to stay relevant as we grow.

Q: What soft skills learned throughout your studies have impacted your career the most?

Callipari: The traits that are most connected to my success are clear and concise communication, organization and discipline. Without refining these skills throughout my studies, I wouldn't have been able to build a successful sales career for myself. These traits are all key to being a great sales person, regardless of what field of business you're in!

Q: What motivates you to stay connected to Penn State?

Callipari: I loved my experience at Penn State Schuylkill! I always wanted to be a Penn Stater and was someone who grew up watching Penn State Football from a very young age. Not only did I have great academic and extracurricular experiences on-campus, I also met my wife at Penn State Schuylkill, which is something I hold very close to my heart. I like to stay in touch with the campus because I enjoy keeping a strong network – you never know when you're going to need it.

Alumni Relations provides opportunities for alumni to support the campus through advocacy, philanthropy, and student career preparation by providing expertise, mentoring, and internships. Current students become involved in these activities through the Blue & White Society to help them grow into engaged alumni.
