Alumni Band Weekend 2024

The RBAA is working with Athletics and Band Staff on this year's Alumni Band halftime performance at the Georgia Tech game on the weekend of November 30 (Thanksgiving weekend). This is a huge operational shift from previous years which was performing pregame at Homecoming. While there is so much to be decided, here's what we know right now.

  • We will NOT be performing at the Homecoming game; this is our only opportunity to play in Sanford Stadium this year. We will be recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Alumni Band by having the graduating seniors who will be entering the Alumni Band ranks perform with us (in addition to Legacies and possibly some Derbies). We will continue our new tradition of walking behind the Redcoats in the Homecoming parade and will also have a gathering afterward similar to the one at The Globe last year.
  • We will have tickets available for purchase when registration opens as in previous years for those who need them. Lower level seats.
  • The Alumni Band Weekend schedule at this point is tentative and is for general planning purposes as the game slot for the Georgia Tech game that weekend is subject to being moved and may not be known with certainty for some time. We hope to delay Alumni Band Weekend registration until the date/time are set, and will inform you as we get more concrete information.
  •  We remain grateful for this unique opportunity. As you can imagine the ever-changing college football landscape brings new challenges. Stay tuned, and keep your eyes out for more info as it develops.

We hope you can join us for the 50th Anniversary of the Alumni Band! How Sweet It Is!

The Official/Unofficial RCB Alumni Gathering (The Event) returns this summer to Athens! Saturday, July 13th from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Location is TBD. Follow https://www.facebook.com/TheUnofficialEvent for more information.

Alumni Spotlight

Still directing bands

Joyce Latham King started in the Redcoat Band as a freshmen saxophone player in 1976. In 1980 and 1981 she was selected as a Drum Major for the Redcoat Band. She graduated from Georgia in 1980 with a BMEd and in 1983 she earned her Masters in Music Education. Today Joyce directs two community bands: Yargo Community Concert Band in Winder, GA and New Horizons Band in Athens under the UGA Community Music School. New Horizons Music programs provide music making opportunities for adults, generally over the age of 50, including those with no musical experience at all and those who were active in school music programs but have been inactive for a long period.

Alumni Pep Band Plays for Universities Forever

On April 7 the Alumni Pep Band played for the Grand Re-opening of Universities Forever (UGA Forever) in Cumming. Past Bulldog players Tim Worley and Tra Battle were on hand to help celebrate. The Pep Band had a great time providing Bulldog music for everyone who dropped by. A special thank-you to Hannah Marston who directed the band. Hannah who graduated from UGA in December was a Drum Major for the Redcoat Band. She did a fantastic job!
