#EQtoCollege Instagram Highlight: "Pizza + Live!"
Before school closures, Equitas alumni were invited to drop by the Equitas Network Office any day by appointment for support with (quite literally) anything. Once a month, we also ordered pizza and held our "Pizza + (Fill in the Blank)" monthly social. Since the school closures limited our gatherings, we took these gatherings to Instagram for live Q&A sessions with alumni's former Equitas teachers and staff. Ms. Davis kicked it off with a Q&A on self-care and socio-emotional needs during physical distancing. Then, the following Tuesday, 8th grade ELA teacher Ms. Villescas covered the best tips to using personal storytelling for effective scholarship applications, college personal statements, and more. Hosted by Ms. Kaur, both of the past "Pizza + Live!" sessions are recapped below. (Click/tap a photo to zoom in.)
Don't miss an episode and join us every Tuesday at 4pm on Instagram ( @equitas.alumni). Next up on "Pizza + Live!"
  • May 5: Ms. Edelman interviews Equitas teachers and reads dozens of resumes, so she'll share her secrets on the best resumes and interview tips.
  • May 12: Ms. Mitre will make you feel better about the the uneasiness of being the first in your family to go to college. (Ms. Mitre, Ms. Kaur, and Mr. Iniguez were first to go, too!)
Tune in, complete the weekly challenge, and you could earn free pizza delivery!
The Latest for Alumni

FEATURED NEWS
Every March, the Equitas Alumni community comes together over Cesar E. Chavez weekend for a day of service. The day symbolizes the community transformation that occurs when we all come together for a common cause, whether that's by cleaning up a beach, handing out food, or going to college and bringing back another bachelor's degree to Pico-Union. This year, our Alumni Service Day was postponed due to social distancing. We're excited to announce our virtual Alumni Service Day, a " Dear Class of 2028" Letter Campaign!

Online through May 30, 2020, alumni can write a letter to the Equitas Class of 2028 to congratulate them on culmination and share advice on navigating high school. Letters of 200+ words earn alumni the 2020 Service Day T-Shirt! All submissions are eligible to receive service hours. For details and to submit your letter, visit our website.
You can pick up free meals at Equitas Academy on Pico two times a week. Plus, get details on where to get free internet service, yoga sessions, and more.
