BISHOP HARTLEY ALUMNI LEAD SENIOR RETREAT
|
|
Noah Gilchrist, ’15, and Dorothy Allwein, ’16, both from the Damascus Catholic Mission worked with Campus Minister, Tera Chun, ’04, to prepare retreat days for seniors (each hybrid group attended a full day session).
Noah Gilchrist said a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ and his church led him to work as a missionary with a traveling summer camp for youth. That traveling camp is now the 471 acre campus of the Damascus Catholic Mission and has served more than 10,000 youths from across the country. After his start as a volunteer, Noah joined the Damascus staff in 2016 and now serves as Director of Outreach. In his role, he coordinates programming between schools and Damascus. He also makes sure that the youth take their experience back to their schools and parishes to “sustain their encounter.” Dorothy Allwein is also part of the Damascus team and was a speaker during the retreat days.
In summing up the retreat days, Noah said, “The Hartley retreat was incredibly powerful! I was blessed to be able to help set these retreats up with Mrs. Chun in the midst of this pandemic. It was powerful to see my encounter with Christ come full-circle seven years later as I was able to lead many missionaries to help facilitate that same experience that I had at the High School that I went to. What a blessing!”
We were grateful to have a retreat team with an understanding of the Hartley culture and family. Both were able to tour campus and see how we have grown since their time here. To learn more about the Damascus Catholic Mission and Catholic Summer Youth Camp, click this link.
