Brene Brown, a research professor who has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, says “people are hard to hate close up. Move in.”
As our Walker administration begins the shift into a critical time of listening, I want to invite our alumni of color to
move in
to conversation with us. Please know I am here for you. Not just as your Alumni Director but also as a fellow alumna. If you want to talk about your Walker experience, help us in our attempts to grow in understanding, or ask questions I am always available. While I continue to work remotely my cell is the best way to reach me (678-641-6585). If this is a conversation you want to have in-person there are plenty of spaces around campus where we can safely do so.
My heart for all our alumni is that you feel seen and heard as individuals. My heart is that our school will continue to grow in understanding the needs of all constituent groups, in particular, our community of color. My
hope
is that our alumni will help lead those efforts - not only by participating in on-campus conversations but also by the example we set in the world.
