Five Star Message

Darryl reflects on his journey from a nervous freshman at Brookfield Academy to a purpose-driven adult. At first, the school’s Five Stars held little meaning; but over time, especially after graduation, they became a guiding framework centered on service, integrity, and impact.

A pivotal moment came on Darryl's first day, when a welcoming gesture from Dr. Davis transformed feelings of fear into belonging. This experience shaped his belief that purpose begins with serving others through kindness and support.

Throughout a career in the nonprofit, financial, and technology sectors, Darryl emphasizes that true success lies not in titles, but in making a positive difference in people’s lives. The piece concludes with gratitude toward mentors and a hope that future members of the Brookfield Academy community will continue to embrace service as the foundation of purpose.

A Five Star Day to Remember

The Five Star Seminar on March 13 was a tremendous success, bringing together students and alumni for a morning filled with insight and inspiration. Our Upper School students had the opportunity to hear from an outstanding lineup of speakers, many of them Brookfield Academy alumni, who shared how the Five Stars have guided their paths beyond campus and into their professional and personal lives.

Just as meaningful as the program itself was alumni reconnecting, sharing stories, and picking up right where they left off. In fact, the enthusiasm carried into the evening, when a group of alumni from the nineties gathered once again at The Elbow Room down the road, owned by Jake Dehne '95.

Events like the Five Star Seminar are a powerful reminder that the Brookfield Academy community extends far beyond graduation day, continuing to connect and inspire across generations.

STEFAN ROMERO '15

From Georgia to Patriots Hall! Stefan was one of the alumni speakers who returned to campus to connect with students.

During his visit, we snagged a photo of him with his artwork, which is on display in the Alumni Art Gallery. Talk about a trip down Memory Lane!

GRADUATION

Saturday, May 16, 2026

2 pm

We are proud to welcome Tom Davis '71 as the Class of 2026 commencement speaker, a distinguished alumnus whose journey is deeply rooted in the earliest days of Brookfield Academy.

The son of Walter and Betty Davis, Tom began at the Academy of Basic Education (ABE) in 1962 as a fourth grader in a class of just six students. He later graduated as a member of BA’s very first senior class in 1971, helping to lay the groundwork for the generations of graduates who have followed.

After earning his degree from Rice University, Tom built a successful 24-year career with Grede Foundries. He later completed his MBA at Wichita State University and went on to serve as Headmaster of Wichita Collegiate School.

Throughout his career, Tom has remained deeply engaged in service, contributing his leadership to numerous church, community, professional, and nonprofit boards.

Tom and his wife, Debi, are proud parents of four children and grandparents to 14 grandchildren. A strong believer in faith, freedom, and family, Tom exemplifies the values that continue to define Brookfield Academy. We look forward to the perspective and encouragement he will share with the Class of 2026.

Alumni Making an Impact

RICK ANDRITSCH '87

Rick was installed as National President of the Associated General Contractors of America at their annual convention in March. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to the leadership cultivated at BA.

We are proud to see Rick making meaningful contributions on the national stage. The Milwaukee Business Journal highlights Rick's journey to the top in this article.

MATTHEW UNDERHILL '22

He did it AGAIN?! Matthew has earned his FOURTH All-American title in NCAA Men’s Gymnastics at Penn State, an accomplishment achieved by only a select group of Division I athletes nationwide.

Earning All-America honors once is a significant achievement. Reaching this milestone four times speaks to an extraordinary level of discipline, resilience, and sustained excellence.

Matthew’s success reflects not only athletic talent, but the mindset required for long-term achievement, focus, consistency, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

We look forward to seeing where his talents take him next.

HENA ALLAQABAND '23

BA students took a Spring Break trip to Spain. Hena “just happens” to be studying abroad and became the group’s unofficial tour guide, translator, and local celebrity.

Proof that our alums are taking on the world, and we are just lucky enough to run into them!

GENEVIEVE KOPP '21 AND JULIANNA INNIS '25

Over spring break, Mrs. Buckley welcomed Genevieve and Julianna to campus to help current students install the first phase of the Upper School Art Show. Thank you for lending your time and talents!

Alumni, prepare to be impressed… BA’s Art Program has come a long way from the basement of Founders Hall. We have officially upgraded from “cozy and creative” to full studios and even an Alumni Art Gallery.

Trust us, you will want to see this transformation for yourself - come to the Art Show on Thursday, April 16, from 6-8 pm!

SARAH KAPUSTIN

Former BA student, Sarah, lives in Amsterdam and continues to make waves with her music. In 2025, she marked her 40th anniversary of playing the violin, and she celebrated in a big way! Throughout last year, Sarah released live video recordings of all six solo violin works by Bach, recorded in six different locations in the Netherlands.

The sixth and final release of the Sonata No. 3 in C Major was on December 10, 2025. Click here for a behind-the-scenes look into the process of creating the six-film series Bach (De)constructed.
