First Inland Empire Alumni Mixer in Over 6-Years a Success!
On Tuesday, December 5th, over 40 recent and seasoned graduates gathered for the first alumni Inland Empire mixer in over 6-years. Hosted by Western State Hall of Fame member and Chairman of the WSCL Board of Advisors, William D. Shapiro (Class of 1978), the mixer provided an invaluable opportunity for alumni to connect, network, and create new professional opportunities. Select Western State students also had the chance to connect with alumni as they prepare to start their own careers.
The mixer was made even more special with a heartfelt welcome from William D. Shapiro and a comprehensive update on the College of Law by Dean Marisa Cianciarulo. Both emphasized the school's achievements and growth, connecting with the alumni and creating a sense of community and pride.

Congratulations to William D. Shapiro, Class of 1978
William D. Shapiro (Class of 1978) has been elected as the National Vice President of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). ABOTA is an esteemed organization dedicated to upholding the fundamental rights guaranteed by the 7th Amendment, particularly the right to a trial by jury.
Shapiro's election to this prestigious role is a testament to his exceptional legal expertise and unwavering commitment to justice, professionalism, and civility. He is a Western State Hall of Fame member, Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Board of Advisor Chairman, Dean's Counselor, and adjunct professor.
Let's congratulate William D. Shapiro for this well-deserved honor and wish him continued success in his journey to uphold justice and integrity within the legal community!

Mitch Jackson (Class of 1985) was recently invited to speak on a panel at ClioCon in Nashville, TN, in front of a crowd of over 2,000. Mitch joined two others on the "ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of Law" panel and discussed the legal nuances of artificial intelligence.

Eric V. Traut (Class of 1989 | Hall of Fame) was recently selected as 2023 "Top Gun Trial Lawyer of the Year - Personal Injury" by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association (OCTLA). This is Eric’s second time being honored by OCTLA.
Eric has also been unanimously appointed to the Public Law Center's (PLC) Board. The PLC is a pro bono law firm committed to providing access to justice for low-income and vulnerable residents.

On November 13th, over 40 students gathered for an alumni speaker series event focusing on policy law. Alumna Nancy Bailon (Class of 2021) delivered a comprehensive overview of the field, showcasing the daily experiences of policy law attorneys, various career pathways, and offered valuable insights, advice, and discussions around challenges and obstacles. Students left with a deeper understanding of policy law and its potential as a career choice.
