The Caritas Awards will be held on May 29th to honor those individuals who exemplify the values and vision of Father Basil Moreau, showing loving kindness towards others and a self-sacrifice for the good of others. This year we have added awards for the Distinguished Young Alumni, Outstanding Alumni in Faith and Service, and Outstanding Alumni in Career or Profession (please read descriptions with each award). If you have not yet voted for the Caritas Awards, please take a minute now to nominate those alumni whom you believe are worthy of these honors by using the online forms below. Alumni Spotted on Campus
Welcome, Alums! 
Andrew Feather '13 (pictured left) visited the BMHS campus last week while on his spring break. Andrew is a Broadcast Journalism major at Elon University.  He is part of the Elon Broadcast News, which is up for a College Television Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation. 

Angelique Payne '11
(pictured  below with Herman Gloster '96)  was here visiting on campus. She is going to school at PGCC and working at Chick-Fil-A as a Community Relations Director.

Allie Donoghue '11
(pictured below left with teacher, Mr. Matthew Buckley '98) is attending Hood College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, were she is studying Biology and Philosophy. Allie is also a member of the Volleyball team. After she graduates in 2015, she plans to continue her studies in the field of Dental Hygiene. 

Desmond Rashard Proctor '08 visited BMHS last week. He is pictured below right with Associate Principal Mr. Reginald Brady. 

TJ Hayden '10 was also on campus this week but we didn't get his picture (sorry). He is an EMT with Prince George's County.

Mustang Cup Golf Tournament
Mark your calendar for Friday, May 2, 2014  

Registration has begun for the Bishop McNamara 29th Annual Mustang Cup Golf Tournament on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Renditions Golf Course.  In addition, the 2nd Annual Sip & Swing event will be held simultaneously for the non-golfer, filled with lessons from Renditions Golf Pro, wine pairing lunch, seated massages and so much more. The proceeds from both events will be used to provide financial assistance to deserving BMHS students. We have sponsorships available! Go to Mustang Cup!

Alumni Gathering at Opal Devine's in Austin TX
While in Austin, Texas attending the Holy Cross Institute at St. Edward's University, President/CEO Marco Clark had the great honor of meeting up with alums at Opal Devine's in Austin. Memorial Gardens
On  April 29, 2014, there will be an unveiling and dedication of the Memorial Garden located behind Alumni Hall. The Garden (pictured at left) will be in honor of Terrell Edelen '14 who passed away in 2013. This garden will honor the memory of Terrell and gives our community the opportunity to likewise honor deceased loved ones. The pictured bricks, pavers and benches are available to purchase and personalize in memory of your loved ones. Bricks are $250, Pavers are $500, and Benches are $1000. Kaisha Sutton '08 Engaged at Cirque du Soleil
Kaisha Sutton '08 was engaged to be married on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Her fianc�, Quinton Huguley, and Kaisha have been dating for nearly 6 years, having met the first day of college at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Quinton proposed to her after the Cirque du Soleil: Michael Jackson Immortal Tour at the Patriot Center.  "Michael Jackson is my favorite artist," she explained, "and I was so excited for the show.  As we left the building to head to the car, we walked into a large group of our family and friends. Soon after I read the signs they created, Quinton dropped down to one knee, asked me to marry him, and I said yes!" Kaisha is the daughter of Fine Arts Choir Director, Mrs. Rhoda Sutton. All our best for your wedding plans, Kaisha.

Vincent Harrington '09 Runs for Maryland  DCC
Vincent Harrington '09  is running for the 25th District of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee. Vincent, a 2013 graduate of University of Maryland College Park with a degree in Communications, is the Director of Business Development for the Energy Audits & Green Solutions in Mitchellville, Maryland.

Alums Accept Positions with Morgan State Football
John Morgan '89 and Rod Chapman '88 have accepted positions with the Morgan State Football program for 2014. John and Rod will be the new Assistant Football Coaches for the upcoming season.  
Harry Spikes '00 Has Sights on House of Delegates
Harry Spikes '00 is running for the 45th District of the Maryland House of Delegates. Harry is a graduate of Morgan State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore specializing in Public Policy and Administration. He has served for the last nine years as a Special Assistant to Congressman Elijah E. Tyrone Allen '13 to perform at The Kennedy Center 
Eastman School of Music freshman, Tyrone Allen '13, will perform along with 11 other Eastman students at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on April 23, 2014. Their performance is part of the Conservatory Project, a series that showcases outstanding young musicians from around the country. The event presents talented artists in classical music, jazz, musical theater, and opera from the nation's leading conservatories and music schools. For the full story, go to Twelve Eastman School of Music Students to Perform at Kennedy Center.  
Matt Nunez '12 Chooses Moreau House at St. Ed's
Matt Nunez '12 (pictured in header image above at Holy Cross Dinner) will be moving to the Moreau House at St. Edward's University to share the residence with the Holy Cross Brothers and students who are like-minded in spiritual and academic commitment. Moreau House gives students the chance to experience communal living with the Brothers in this unique on-campus living environment. Moreau House is exclusive to young men interested in exploring their faith through the Congregation of Holy Cross, living through three pillars - community, service and prayer. 
Meagan Gillis '06 Pursues Master's in Music

Meagan Gillis '06 is currently pursuing a Master's in Music Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music. An aspiring Timpani player, Meagan will graduate in May, and continue to audition for principal Timpani positions in orchestras all over the United States. This summer, Meagan plans to audition for the Music Under New York (MUNY) Program, a group of performers who are featured in the most popular mezzanines of the New York Subway system. She will be performing Ragtime Xylophone solos with piano accompaniment, as seen in the video below. Follow her street performance adventures at facebook.com/streetragsnyc.

Aspen Music Festival & School for Justin Kelly '13
Justin Kelly '13 has just been accepted to the very prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School for the 2014 season. He will spend 8 weeks in Aspen, Colorado studying and performing orchestral music. 
Justin is currently pursuing degrees in Physics and Percussion Performance at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

 

Julia Donoghue '09 Graduates Cornell
Julia Donoghue '09 graduated in 2013 from Cornell University with a Business degree. Julia had previously received an Associate degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America.
UNC Graduate Program for Nashae Woods '10

Nashae Woods '10 will graduate in May from North Carolina Central University with a B.A in Psychology.  She is accepted to the Graduate Program for Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her future goal is to be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Coye Gerald '12 to Study Abroad in South Korea
Coye Gerald '12 is currently finishing his sophomore year at Salisbury University, where he is studying International Affairs, Communication Arts, Journalism and Public Relations.  Coye is the president of Salisbury's Filipino-American Cultural Association, and is on the executive board for Salisbury's Asian/Pacific Islander Club.  For the fall 2014 semester, Coye will study abroad at Chonbuk University in South Korea, the first student from Salisbury University to study at Chonbuk University.  While there, Coye will take Korean language and culture classes, and will participate in curricular activities related to the program.
B.A. in Criminal Justice for Ryan Leslie '10 
Ryan Leslie '10 will graduate from Virginia Wesleyan College, Norfolk, Virginia, on May 17 with Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, while maintaining a GPA of 3.0. Ryan has accepted a position with Cornerstone Surveying as a Commercial Surveyor starting directly after graduation.
St. Ed's Junior Managing Art Shows
Jeffrey Miles '11, a junior Art major at St. Edward's in Austin, Texas, is setting up art shows for local artists. Jeff is pictured above in the header image, along with other alumni, administrators and teachers, at the Holy Cross dinner. Keep us posted on your work, Jeff. We hope to see him at some future date as a guest artist with the Fine Arts program.

Talib Zanna '09 to play in Senior All-Star Game
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the rosters for the 2014 Reese's� Division I College All-Star game. BMHS' own Talib Zanna '09 will play on Friday (April 4th) at At&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, as part of Final 4 weekend beginning at 4:30 pm at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. Reese's is the official candy partner of the NCAA. Great year, Talib! 
Alexis McNeil '13 Clocks 2nd Fastest Time in University History

Alexis McNeil '13 finished first in her heat and recorded the second fastest time in school history in the 100 meter dash this weekend at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. The two-day meet was hosted by North Carolina State University. Alexis posted a time of 12.55 seconds, only a quarter-second off of the University of Mount Olive Trojan record. Congratulations, Alexis.

Jay Gavin '07 Plays for Germany Pro Basketball
Jay Gavin '07 was in to see his former coach, Marty Keithline, this week bringing an EVL Game shirt for the Coach. Jay plays as one of the starting five for the EVL Baskets Limburg Basketball team in Limburg, Germany.

Did You Know?
Alums Train Jr. Scientist in the Sea at BMHS

Jr. Scientists In the Sea at BMHS (JSIS @ BMHS) is a new club that has caused quite an excitement here in the school. The club moderators are Open Water Scuba Instructors and Emergency First Responder Instructors with the UAS, Jay V. Haigler '78 and Vanessa Haigler LR '77, and the Faculty Advisor is teacher Jason Clark who completed his open water scuba certification training in October. Club President, student Devon Adams '15 has already earned his SCUBA certification from the Haiglers. This club will challenge students in ways they never thought possible. Activities include learning to SCUBA dive, underwater ecological programming, diving with sharks, underwater archaeology, travel and lots of fun. Congratulations to BMHS Musical Mustangs
Congratulations to the String Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band who all earned "superior" rankings at the PG County Music Festival held at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School, the highest ranking possible, of all these groups. Congratulations to Mr. Anthony Conto and Mrs. Francine Hardy for all their work with the Music Program.
Brad Credit '15 Accepted to AAJA JCamp
Brad Credit '15 has been accepted into the Asian American Journalists Association JCamp.  Brad is an editor for school newspaper, The Stampede. JCamp brings a multicultural group of high school students together for five days of intensive journalism training. Students will learn from professional journalists and get hands-on training in writing, photography, television broadcasting, online media, and reporting. Defensive Back Ashton White '15 Looks at UMD
According to The Washington Post, Ashton White is one of the area's most talented defensive backs in the class of 2015. At 6 foot, 180 lb., The Post says Ashton "established himself as one of the top cornerback recruits last spring." He is looking at Maryland, Ohio State, Kentucky, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Cultures Merge: Spain-USA exchange for BMHS
In early September of 2014 the Paz de Ziganda Ikastola (Basque school) in Pamplona (Navarra), Spain students and their teachers would like to come for about two weeks. As in years past, we anticipate needing some 30 families to host students.  During that time, they will live with BMHS families who will act as their hosts. Loyola University Graduate Programs at BMHS

Loyola University Maryland will hold an information session at Bishop McNamara regarding their graduate programs on May 1 after school.  Our teachers are welcome, but this will also be an opportunity for teachers from the area to learn about Loyola's education program.
