Alumni Spotlight - Armani Rivera '16
|
|
Armani Rivera is a 2016 graduate of New Foundations Charter School.
Armani ran track & field and cross country all four years he was a student at NFCS. He attended Gwynedd Mercy University for four years where he continued to pursue his passion for running. He was selected as the 2019-2020 Gwynedd Mercy Male Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was a three-time all-conference selection in Cross Country, a Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) second team selection and was a part of the Atlantic East First Team all conference in 2018 in the AEC, taking home two first team awards at the AEC Championships. Armani also captured a First-Team All CSAC in 2017. In addition, he was inducted into the National Honor Society - Chi Alpha Sigma.
His successes also included All-ECAC selections in 2019, also is was the ECAC indoor champion in the 3000 meters. He was also named to the All-CSAC Sportsmanship Team. Armani thanks all his coaches that supported him throughout his high school years as well as his college years. He is proud to be Bulldog and a Griffin! It was an honor to have ran for both NFCS Bulldogs and Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins!!

Bulldog Blockbuster Highlight

On November 27, 2021, the New Foundations Alumni Association hosted the first annual Bulldog Bash! This two part event featured an alumni 3v3 basketball tournament, as well as an afterparty at Chickie's & Pete’s on the Boulevard. The basketball tournament had 5 teams competing, and alumni coming out to spectate. Congratulations to our tournament winners, Tariq Chambers (‘17), Nicholas O’Boyle (‘17) and Joe O’Boyle (‘15), and to the door prize winner at the afterparty: Jacob Thomas(‘18). Thank you to all of the alumni and NFCS staff who participated in the 3v3, and those who joined us at the afterparty for food, drinks and games! It was a great day of competition, catching up with old friends and making some new! We can’t wait to see you at our next event.

Scholarship Opportunities
|
|
“The Jimmy Rane Foundation was established with the purpose of sending deserving students to college. Since then, the Foundation has awarded 510 scholarships to well-deserving students.”

Requirements:
- Students enrolled full-time as a college freshman or sophomore
- No older than 20 years of age as of August 1, 2022
- Progressing normally toward a bachelor’s degree
- A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 for college applicants
- All applicants must reside (permanent home address) in one of the following states or the District of Columbia: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Delaware or New Jersey
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident
Deadline: February 7, 2022
Award Amount: $500 to $5,000

“The BMW/SAE Engineering Scholarship is an annual award which is provided by BMW AG in recognition of its commitment to excellence in engineering. This scholarship is supported by the SAE Foundation and its main aim is to ensure an adequate supply of well-trained engineers for the future.”

Requirements:
- Freshman level
- U.S. resident
- Must be an Incoming Freshman
- Minimum unweighted 3.75 grade point average
- Pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET accredited program.
- Provide two (2) Letters of Recommendation - one (1) that focuses on academics and one (1) that speaks to your involvement in extracurricular activities or employment
- Participation in a STEM-related extracurricular activity /club or employment/shadowing that relates to your intended engineering major
Deadline: March 15, 2022
Award Amount: $1,500

“Aspiring information security professionals have the opportunity to ease some of their educational financial burden with the (ISC)² Information Security Undergraduate Scholarship, offering undergraduate students studying information security up to US$5,000 per recipient.”

Requirements:
- Must be pursuing, or plan to pursue, a degree with a focus on cybersecurity or information assurance.
- You may be a senior in high school, or an undergraduate student who is currently a junior, freshman, sophomore or senior who will be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the fall. If you will have graduated with your undergraduate degree by the fall then please apply for the (ISC)² Graduate Scholarship if appropriate.
- GPA must be at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or an analogous rank based on a comparable scale).
- You may be a citizen of any country (US citizenship not required).
- May be attending on campus or online.
- May be attending full time or part time.
- May be attending in the US or Internationally.
- You do not currently need to be enrolled, however no awards will be disbursed until the recipient is enrolled in a college or university.
- If awarded: the award will be sent to the school with instructions that it be applied to tuition, fees and books. Recipients do NOT directly receive the award.
