Message from Henry Chandler, Alumni Coordinator
A new school year has begun, the 72nd in Saint Joe history and one dedicated to the core value of serving with joy. The week of August 12th brought the energy and enthusiasm of almost 900 students back into the halls of 453 N. Notre Dame Avenue. The Saint Joe community welcomed ten new faculty and staff including 2020 graduate Marguerite Jay who joins 15 other alumni faculty/staff members. See the alumni faculty/staff photo below in this edition of Alumni Soundings. Also, we are interested in how many Saint Joe graduates are presently employed in Catholic primary and secondary schools around the country. Please make note of the link provided to gather this information and respond by October 1, 2024. We hope to publish the results in our October edition.
It was a very busy summer for reunions and other alumni events. The Classes of 1957, 1958, 1959 (combined), 1974, 1984, 1989, 1993, 2004 and 2014 held reunions with the Classes of 1964 and 1969 reunions still to come in September. In addition, the Class of 1967 celebrated their 75 year birthdays together in early August. A collage of reunion photos appears elsewhere in this Alumni Soundings issue. Please contact the Alumni Office (hchandler@saintjoehigh.com) if you are planning a 2025 reunion. It's not too early to get started.
Many alumni will remember Sister Carmel Sallows and the late Brother Robert Dierker from their years of service in the Attendance Office. There will soon be recognition signage of their dedication to Saint Joseph High School installed outside the Office of Student Life. Look for more on this event in a future edition.
The intentions of all alumni are remembered monthly in the Saint Joe Prayer Corner. Please keep our students, faculty and staff in your prayers as we venture into the new school year.
Wishing you all God's blessings,

Sister M. Fiat Professes Final Vows
Congratulations to Sister M. Fiat (Rachel) Staley '11 on professing her final vows to the Sisters Of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration. We're so proud of you and inspired by your deep commitment to your faith! In high school, Sister Fiat “fell in love” with her relationship with the Lord and eventually took a year after graduation to serve with NET Ministries. Sister Fiat said she learned the importance of three main things during NET: daily prayer, community, and preaching the Gospel to the young – all three of which she has found in her religious community.

Happenings Around Saint Joe
We are excited to celebrate five of our wonderful students, Kobby Addo '26, Susie Alcantar '25, Molly Borger '25, Angela Pham '25, and Cesar Robles '26, who participated in the RC3 Internship at Harper Cancer Research at Notre Dame this summer. Our students worked alongside top researchers at Notre Dame, diving deep into cutting-edge cancer research. This hands-on opportunity not only enhanced their problem-solving and leadership skills but also ignited a passion for making a difference in the world.

Each year, the College Board awards academic honors to high performing, traditionally underrepresented students. The five national recognition programs include the National African American Recognition Program, National First-Generation Recognition Program, National Hispanic Recognition Program, National Indigenous Recognition Program, and National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program. In order to be recognized, students must score in the top 10% of PSAT takers within the state of Indiana and identify as first-generation, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Indigenous or Native and/or attend school in a rural area or small town.
Congratulations to the students earning College Board National Recognition Awards!

Congratulations to the following athletes on being selected to the South Bend Tribune's Best Saint Joe Athletes of the past 25 years. The list was published in the July 17 edition of the Tribune sports section. These alums ranked at the top of many skilled athletes who have worn Saint Joe colors over the last quarter century, and should be very proud of their high school achievements.
