Welcome to the first edition of Alumni Soundings for the 2025-2026 school year. I hope that the summer has been a time of relaxation and rejuvenation for you. On Tuesday, August 12, the halls of Saint Joe will be filled with students as we begin our 14th year at 453 N. Notre Dame Avenue and our 73rd year providing a premier Catholic education to our students. The core value we are emphasizing this school year is Discover Our Gifts. Each of us has special gifts from God our Creator that have been bestowed not only to benefit us but also to share with others and to be used for the benefit of all. Throughout the school year, the discovery of those special gifts and talents will be a focus for the school community.
I share with great pride that 19 alumni will be members of the faculty and staff of Saint Joseph High School this year. We welcome new faculty members Catherine Swick, '17, James Eck, '18 and Director of Enrollment Dr. Nadia Jones Ewing, '99 to the Saint Joe family.
The intentions of Saint Joe alumni are included in each edition of the Saint Joe Prayer Corner and deceased alumni are remembered at the Alumni Memorial Masses in June and November. Please keep the faculty, staff, administration and students of Saint Joseph High School in your prayers as we embark on this new academic year.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.

| | Attention Saint Joe Alumni | | In partnership with Publishing Concepts, LP (PCI), Saint Joseph High School is compiling an oral history of the school. We previously partnered with PCI in the publication of the 2021 Alumni Directory. The oral history project will allow alumni to update their contact information, share stories and memories of their years at the school, and purchase various merchandise associated with the project including the book. Please note that no purchase is necessary for alumni to participate in this project. The timeline for the project will cover 12-16 months and will kick-off on September 9. Alumni will receive postcards and emails asking them to call PCI to participate in the project. Once alumni have responded by calling, no further communication is necessary. A list of Frequently Asked Questions by Alumni is posted on the Alumni section of the Saint Joe website for your convenience and can also be found at the link below. | | Save the Date: Saint Joe Trivia Night | | Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 25 — Saint Joe's Trivia Night is officially happening! | | Last Building Demolished at Site of Former Saint Joseph's High School | | The final remnant of the Saint Joseph's High School building at 1441 N. Michigan Street was recently demolished. The southernmost portion of the building which was originally the convent for the Sisters of the Holy Cross and subsequently the school Art Department came down in July. The building was the property of the University of Notre Dame which had renamed it Hillcrest Hall with the 1441 N. Michigan Street address. | | Greenan Sullivan ’15 Ordained to the Diaconate | | |
Greenan Sullivan ’15 was recently ordained as a deacon for the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The son of Shawn and Pam Sullivan, Greenan grew up in South Bend as one of six siblings, attending grade school at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School and St. Pius X before graduating from Saint Joseph High School in 2015. He went on to study at Ave Maria University in Florida, where he also played on the basketball team.
As a seminarian, Sullivan served summer assignments at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Wayne and at St. Pius X in South Bend. Reflecting on those experiences, he shared with Today’s Catholic, “These summer assignments have helped me foster a greater love of the people of the diocese and a greater desire to serve them as a deacon and priest.”
Sullivan studied at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, where he found meaningful friendship and fraternity with fellow seminarians Hickey, Isch, and Martinez. “My diocesan brothers have made it a great pleasure to be a seminarian… They have had my back since the day I entered seminary.”
He was vested during the ordination Mass by Father Brian Florin, a former classmate and current pastor of St. John the Evangelist in Goshen. Grateful for the prayers and support of the faithful throughout his formation, Sullivan said, “I would not be here today without it.”
Looking ahead, Sullivan embraces the heart of ordained ministry: “I hope that my experiences as a deacon will help me further realize that I am ordained to serve rather than be served.”

Athletics Update
| | Message from Director of Athletics, Stephen Anthony | | |
The 2024-2025 school year was an exciting year for the Huskies with two state championships (Boys Basketball and Girls Lacrosse), state qualification by the Boys and Girls Golf teams, multiple conference MVP's and coach-of-the-year honors, and an IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner.
The summer activity at Saint Joe has certainly kept the momentum for Saint Joe Athletics moving forward with significant facility upgrades. The new look for the Huskies includes the installation of new turf on Father Bly Field, rebranding of Alumni Gym with a new court design and student-athlete and team accomplishment banners, additional branding in the Auxiliary Gym and a wrap on the visiting football bleachers.
The new year will certainly be an exciting year as our teams continue to compete for championship, serve the mission of Saint Joseph, and celebrate past success and new sports. Saint Joe Athletics will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the1995 Class 3A Football State Championship on September 5 - all former SJ football players are invited to attend. Also, we are excited for the inaugural season for Girls Flag Football - an IHSAA emerging sport (as well as Girls Lacrosse) this Fall.
Looking forward to the new year and supporting our student-athletes as we all Back the Pack!
Go Huskies!
