A Message from the Alumni Office
The reunion season has ended, the school year is nearing the end of the first semester, Thanksgiving has come and gone, and we are now in the midst of that wonderful time of the year, the Christmas season. It is a very busy time with gifts to purchase, events to attend, homes and yards to decorate, special meals to plan, and holiday cookies to bake. As family and friends gather to enjoy the holiday and good cheer, may we never forget that the true spirit of the season is the celebration of the birth of the Infant in Bethlehem who came humbly into this world and whose life and death provided the opportunity for salvation to all of us.
The Alumni Office wishes you a joyous Christmas and God's continued blessings in the New Year.

Pat Holmes '08 Takes Pride in Leading La Lumiere Boys Basketball
|
|
La Lumiere has stayed one of the country’s top high school basketball powers under Pat Holmes '08. Coaching is something Holmes has wanted to do since childhood, with the passion growing during his time at Saint Joseph High School and as a student manager for the Notre Dame men’s basketball program from 2009-12. After a year as the video coordinator for the Fighting Irish post-graduation, Holmes spent the 2013-14 season under Leonard Hamilton at Florida State. Wanting to come back home to be closer to family, Holmes returned to the area after his one year in Tallahassee. That’s when he first made contact with La Lumiere. After a few seasons as an assistant coach of the national team — including being on staff for the national title in 2017 — Holmes was elevated to head coach. Holmes’ best season was 2018-19, with the Lakers winning its first 31 games before falling to IMG Academy in the national championship contest. They went 18-10 last year but have another talented roster this season. “I wake up every day knowing I’m very fortunate to have this job and love it,” Holmes said. “I get to call my job coaching basketball and coaching elite-level guys. Being from the area, it is special. My wife and I are both from South Bend, right down the road. We’ve got a bunch of family in the area. "It’s definitely a point of pride to say I’m the head coach at La Lumiere.”

Make a Gift to the Fund for Saint Joseph
We recently launched the 2023-24 Fund for Saint Joseph, the most critical of all our fundraising efforts. Our alumni are our biggest supporters of the Fund for Saint Joseph each year. Your support enables us to offer an exceptional Catholic education for all students, ensuring that tuition remains competitive and affordable. The Fund for Saint Joseph provides the resources needed for faith formation, co-curricular programs, classroom resources, professional development, athletics, campus maintenance and more.
This year's theme, Building the Fund, celebrates what is best about Saint Joe. In our welcoming community, students form lasting bonds, develop a responsibility to self and others, and become a part of a strong, resilient family. Our students aim for academic success while attending to spiritual formation and personal development through daily prayer, worship, retreats, sacramental preparation and service. Our students are prepared to excel academically and to meet life's challenges head on. They become ethical citizens, difference makers, and servant leaders.
No gift is too small, and every gift matters!
