Message from Henry Chandler, Alumni Coordinator
The end of the school year brought tragedy to the Saint Joseph High School community with the drowning deaths of brothers senior Ahmad Qasem and sophomore Saleem Qasem in Lake Michigan on Sunday, May 15.

The May Crowning Mass on Monday, May 16 took on a somber mood as the school mourned the losses of Ahmad and Saleem. Please keep the Qasem family and the students, faculty, and staff of Saint Joe in your prayers during this difficult time.

At the same May Crowning Mass, the Saint joe community recognized Brother Roy Smith, C.S.C. for his 60 year jubilee as a Holy Cross Brother and Brother Robert Dierker, C.S.C., in absentia, for his 70 year jubilee. Brother Roy served at Saint Joe from 1965-1967 in the Theology and Social Studies Departments and is currently the Director of Development for the Midwest Province of the Brothers of Holy Cross. Brother Robert served at Saint Joe in the Attendance Office from 1977 until his retirement in 2010.

As the school year winds down to its last few weeks, the students and faculty look forward to a rejuvenating summer absent the hustle and bustle of the academic year. The Alumni Office wishes all Saint Joe alumni a summer filled with family activities, good health, and
relaxation. May God continue to bless you and Saint Joseph, our patron, protect you.

Athletics Update
Girls tennis is remaining active coming off their NIC Tournament victory over two weeks ago, as Coach Mountford likes to continue testing the team before the IHSAA State Tournament.

The girls have amassed wins over Sturgis, Crown Point, and Marian, and this weekend will test their mettle against state-power Carmel.

The girls won the IHSAA Sectional by defeating Washington and Riley, both 5-0, to advance to IHSAA Regionals beginning next week.
Saint Joe baseball is nearing the end of regular season play with IHSAA Sectional play beginning on Thursday, May 26.

The Indians ended John Glenn's 15-game winning streak thanks to a strong outing from senior Carson Collins, who pitched a complete game surrendering only one unearned run. Saint Joe trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh before senior Julian Kamanda pulled the Indians even with a solo home run.

Senior Mattux Tarwacki scored the winning run later in the frame thanks to some aggressive baserunning and a bloop hit by sophomore Tommy Eck.

Saint Joe took both games of a double header against Bishop Dwenger last weekend, and will celebrate senior night before tonight's home contest against NorthWood.
Softball ascended to the state's top ranking the other week before falling to Lakeshore and dropping a conference game to Penn, 5-1.

The ladies righted the ship with junior Savannah Hamilton in the circle against John Glenn. The offense offered plenty of support, plating eight runs in the top half of the first inning to give their pitcher room to work. Hamilton went five innings, striking out six, en route to a 12-1 victory.

The girls defeated Northridge in an 8-inning thriller on senior night before taking down Elkhart on Thursday night. With her ninth home run of the year, sophomore Riley Zache became the single-season home run title holder at Saint Joe.
Boys lacrosse is ranked second in the state currently, sitting percentage points behind a Guerin Catholic team that has already fallen to the Indians this year.

The boys took care of Penn on senior night, winning 18-6.

The IHSLA state tournament is next, where Saint Joe is seeded second overall and received a first round bye. They will play either Evansville North or Bishop Chatard.
