Christy Toombs

After graduating from Randolph-Henry High School, Christy Toombs chose to stay close to home and enrolled in Southside Virginia Community College, where she felt she would receive a high-quality education. She earned associates' degrees in both Business Management and Nursing from the College.

Christy held several jobs after earning her business degree that allowed her to remain in Charlotte County. Christy says that after starting a family, “I decided I wanted a change. I wanted to go into nursing, and once again, SVCC provided me that opportunity. I was able to remain home in Charlotte County. The program’s schedule allowed me to stay employed to help provide for my family while working towards my degree."

Christy is now employed by VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. Her future goals include finishing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, which she is currently working on through Grand Canyon University.

When asked to reflect on her experience at SVCC, Christy says, “It is a great opportunity for you to get an education while maintaining your roots if that's what you choose or desire. It is affordable and prepares you for future employment and educational goals. I'm proud to say that both of my sons are currently taking classes through SVCC to prepare for their future endeavors."
