Latarsha Walton
From Meherrin, Virginia, Latarsha Walton graduated from Central Senior High School before attending Southside Virginia Community College. Choosing SVCC for its convenience, affordability, and selection of interesting programs, Latarsha first earned a certificate in Cosmetology and Barbering and then an Associate of Applied Science degree in Information Science Technology from the College.
After graduating from SVCC, Latarsha worked as a Dispatcher for the Longwood University Police Department. After several years, she pursued a career in information technology and was hired as a Help Desk Technician for the Department of Military Affairs at Fort Pickett in Blackstone, VA, where she worked for five years. She is now a Lead IT Client Support Administrator at Fort Lee in Prince George County and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity through Old Dominion University.
Reflecting on her time at SVCC, Latarsha says, "I’m grateful the SVCC experience allowed me to grow socially, academically, and professionally. I’m very proud to say I’m a member of SVCC's PHI THETA KAPPA honor society. I would encourage anyone who is considering a higher education to explore the advantages SVCC has to offer: affordability, flexible schedules, smaller classes, and great Professors.
