McKaley Boney
McKaley Boney always wanted to be a nurse. When she was very young, she witnessed her grandmother suffer and lose her battle with cancer while still in her forties. This only cemented McKaley's desire to one day be able to offer care and comfort to others as a trained professional. She began her journey early, at the age of fourteen, as a volunteer at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center. McKaley was then able to continue on her path through the opportunity afforded her by the dual enrollment program between Southside Virginia Community College and Greensville County High School. The program allowed her to earn a Career Studies Certificate in SVCC's Nurse Aide training as well as her Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies while still in high school.
After graduating in the top five of her high school class and completing her first degree in 2016, McKaley began working as a Certified Nurse Aide at Greensville Health and Rehabilitation Center while continuing her studies at SVCC. She completed prerequisites for the College's Associate Of Applied Science In Nursing (RN) program in two semesters and graduated from the program in May 2019. She is currently a registered nurse in the emergency department at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia. She has also returned to SVCC to complete prerequisites for a bachelor's degree in nursing, which is on her path to eventually becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
McKaley offers advice to current and future students: " Buckle down and study hard. SVCC offers great programs. They are not easy but are well worth it."
