A native of Belo, Horizonte, Brazil, Sávio Ragonesi chose Delta State University to further his education while taking advantage of a competitive swimming team and amazing athletic facilities.
Sávio excelled in the classroom earning Dean's List and President's List honors as well as NSISC Scholar Athlete accolades all four years at Delta State. Additionally, he said, "I was part of the swim and dive team and served as team captain during my last two years. We won our conference every year I was there and were NCAA runner-ups in 2019."
His advice to prospective and current students? "My advice is to keep learning new skills and stay current with the latest knowledge and technology. Be open to new experiences, and in the early stages of your career, say “yes” to as many opportunities as you can, it’s one of the best ways to grow, build confidence, and a good reputation. Lastly, travel a lot if you can!"

What have you been doing since you graduated from DSU?
After graduating, I worked in sales and business development at a few different companies during my Optional Practical Training (OPT) year. Then, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Business Analytics at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where I also work as a Graduate Research Analyst for the Educational Effectiveness department and as a Research Assistant in Marketing Analytics. I’ll be finishing my degree this August after completing my capstone project.
How did DSU prepare you for what you're doing now?
DSU gave me the opportunity to pursue higher education while swimming, which taught me resilience and time management. It also gave me great friends and a support system that I still rely on today.
What’s a favorite DSU memory?
One of my favorite memories is from 2019, when we won our conference championship and then went on to Indianapolis to finish second as a team at the NCAA championships.
