Record Breaking Parkside Day!
Parkside Day 2023 was one to remember. This year, 1,946 people came together to raise a record $220,046 from 1,139 donors!

Gifts to Parkside Day benefit scholarships, athletics, and student programs at UW-Parkside, providing vital support as UW-Parkside works to prepare more students for graduation and successful futures. We’re grateful to the community of donors and supporters who made the day such a success and – more importantly – are making a significant impact for students!

Here are some other numbers from the day
  • 317 volunteers across the nation gave 403 hours to make their community better.
  • 1000 Hygiene Kits packed - 100% are staying local to help those in need in our own backyard.
  • The Parkside Day Blood Drive saved 128 lives.
  • 376 alumni made a gift on Parkside Day.
  • Alumni Class Years with the Most Donors:

  • 2020 - 2nd Place
  • 2019 - T3rd Place
  • 2021 - T3rd Place
  • 2018 - 5th Place
  • 110 alumni returned to campus to participate in a component of Parkside Day.
  • 117 G.O.L.D (Graduates of the last decade) made a Parkside Day donation to unlock an extra $5,000 from the HARIBO G.O.L.D. Bear Challenge.
  • 21 individual donors matched $29,115 in support of motivational challenges throughout the day.

Dr. Kamaljit Kaur Jackson MBA '16
Master of Business Administration
Dr. Kamaljit Kaur Jackson is one of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients. She is the Vice President, Programs and Operations, for the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC).

"Stay the course – the road may seem long and stressful – full of ups and down – just remember that the experience (not just learning) is molding and shaping you."

Gov. Evers Appoints Jim Kreuser '83 & '86 to the UW Board of Regents
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has appointed Jim Kreuser '83 & '86 to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. The new Regent Kreuser has more than three decades of experience in public service, serving as Kenosha County Executive for 14 years from 2008 to 2022 and representing Kenosha in the Wisconsin State Assembly for 15 years from 1993 to 2008.

Jacqueline Morris '89 was elected as the United Way of Kenosha Board President.
 
John Leiber '00 was elected Wisconsin State Treasurer and began his four-year term in January 2023. 

Julian Thomas '04 started a new position as Vice President, Strategic Planning & Transformation at McKesson. #Advancinghealthoutcomesforall  

Kathlyn Dibble '05 started a new position as Claims Manager for the Tennessee Department of Treasury - Division of Claim & Risk Management. 
 
Travis Wells '11 started a new position in sales and merchandising for tours at Live Nation Entertainment- Alpine Valley.

Anahi Cruz '20 & '22 celebrated the grand reopening of her store World of Bridal Anahi.
 
Sam Altamirano '21 started a new business, The Spanish Center, to create an environment, where people from ALL walks of life feel valued, respected, and represented. The grand opening was held on May 6.
 
Kailyn Palomares '21 is a naturalist at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum, and appeared on TMJ4 News to talk about the organization’s spring story walk trail. Read more

Spring Commencement

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside will hold its Spring 2023 Commencement on Saturday, May 13 in the De Simone Arena. There will be a ceremony for graduates of CBEC and CAH at 9 a.m. This will be followed by a ceremony for CNHS and CSSPS at 2 p.m.
32nd Annual Aging Well Conference

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Professional and Continuing Education Office will be hosting the 32nd Annual Aging Well Conference. The conference is an opportunity to learn from experts in the field of aging and to gain insight into ways to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Michele Gee, Interim Dean of the College of Business, Economics, and Computing 
The “Interim” in Michele Gee’s title will be gone effective July 1, 2023. After that, she will simply be Dean Michele Gee! Dr. Gee served as Interim Dean of the College of Business, Economics, and Computing since August 2021. She has held other leadership roles at UW-Parkside including Department Chair of Business, Assistant to the Provost, Interim Associate Dean, Associate Dean, and Senior Associate Dean of CBEC.

UW-Parkside and Radom Corporation Announce Partnership
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Radom Corporation (Radom) have announced a partnership that will allow students to utilize Radom’s advanced MICAP-OES 1000 (Microwave Inductively Coupled Atmospheric Plasma - Optical Emission Spectrometer) for research and will add this technique to the analytical curriculum for elemental trace analysis. 

UW-Parkside is one of four universities in the world with MICAP-OES 1000 capabilities for student and research advancement.

In Memoriam
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside community is saddened by the loss of Kathleen "Kitty" Picken and Frances Murray Bedford.
Kitty endowed the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities at UW-Parkside, a building affectionately called “The Rita.” This endowment includes tuition assistance for hundreds of students.

Frances retired as emeritus professor of music from UW-Parkside after 24 years. Her long tenure of service and support of the Music Department resulted in the University naming the campus’ new performance hall, the Frances Bedford Concert Hall.

Kennise Perry Recognized on 2023 All In Student Voting Honor Roll
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) announced that Kennise Perry has been recognized as part of the 2023 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll. The ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll awards college students doing outstanding work to advance nonpartisan democratic engagement at participating campuses. Perry joins a group of 175 students recognized for their voter registration, education and turnout efforts ahead of last year’s historic midterm elections.
