Happy Easter!

I would like to be the first to say Happy Easter and offer you well-wishes for a blessed Sunday! I have added a new Headmaster Reflection that reminds our alumni and community to discuss the importance of this weekend so that the true message of Easter is front and center in our lives. We have also listed several virtual offerings so you can continue to celebrate Holy Week with your family while at home.

Our school has taken great strides to establish an excellent model for Distance Learning during these unprecedented times and I'm happy to report that our faculty has continued to deliver an exceptional Malden Catholic education without missing a beat. We created a  Distance Learning page on the MC website  to house everything you need to know regarding our remote learning program including updates, departmental information and the steps we have taken to support our students in this time of change.

I am so grateful for you, our MC community, and truly appreciate all of your support and encouragement as we continue to evolve and excel in this new distance learning environment.

Thank you for your prayers and support,

John K. Thornburg
Headmaster
Distance Learning
On April 6, Malden Catholic introduced a unified Distance Learning Protocol to solidify our remote learning program. We had a very smooth transition to schoolwide Zoom classes and and a revised class schedule to provide a balance between online work and study hours. The faculty has reported that students seem comfortable with the new format and are fully engaged in their schoolwork. For more information regarding the revised program, please see the attached Protocol document: Distance Learning Protocol for Students.

Distance Learning website page  also will provide you with all updated information.
Holy Week
Virtual Holy Thursday Prayer Service Today at 3 PM
Campus Ministry will be hosting a virtual Holy Thursday Prayer Service today from 3-4 PM. This day commemorates the Washing of the Feet and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles and this is a great opportunity for us all to join together on this special day.

Campus Ministry Daily Prayer
As a further way of recognizing our faith and finding strength in being together, our Campus Ministry Office has launched a morning prayer for everyone in our community to enjoy and share. The prayers can be found on the MC YouTube channel.

Easter Sunday Mass at St. Raphael's Parish in Medford
To allow us all to maintain a proper practice of social distancing and to pray and worship from our homes, the rituals of the Triduum will be “livestreamed” from Saint Raphael’s Church onto Facebook. This includes Holy Thursday “Mass of the Lord’s Supper” April 9;
Good Friday “Passion of the Lord” April 10; and the Easter Vigil April 11. Each of these three services will be “livestreamed” to Facebook at 7:00 PM in the evening.

On Easter Sunday morning, Mass will be available on Facebook and also on Medford Community Cablevision (Comcast Channel 3 and Verizon Channel 47) both at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

MC Community Donates iPads for Tufts' Patients
Part of the devastating aspect of testing positive with COVID-19 diagnosis is the isolation it causes for the victim and the sense of separation.

Malden Catholic and the other schools in the Catholic Conference Connects are asking families, friends and alumni to donate fully functioning iPads to Tufts Medical Center between Tuesday, April 7 through Friday April 17. The iPads must be able to run a FaceTime call and Tufts will be accepting donations at 830 Washington St. in Boston. Individuals are asked to drop off the iPads to the security officer at the Emergency Room Monday through Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.

Please consider donating an iPad if you have one available for this great cause.
Mark your calendar for the  Malden Catholic UnGala -  A Day of Caring  on April 30.  Malden Catholic will be celebrating a special day of caring to support our community and we need your help more than ever.

MC Heroes and Local Businesses
We know that everyone is facing their own unique stress and challenges during this crisis. We also know that our MC community is strong and always willing and able to rise to the occasion! While we all stay focused on following the guidelines to keep ourselves and our own families safe and healthy, there are several things that we can do to support our MC community. So many of our current MC family and Alumni are on the front lines caring for our community during this time of crisis. We want to share their inspirational stories and include these heroes in a prayer chain. If you are a MC front line hero or know one, please contact Sarah Hamilton by sending an email to [email protected]

We also want to support our current and alumni family small businesses. If you are an alum with a restaurant that is currently open for delivery or carry out, please send your name and class year, restaurant name, hours and website to [email protected] so that we can share the information.
