Alumni eNews - September 2025

Dear SFHS Alumni,

Our first semester at St. Francis High School is off to a great start - we've welcomed 173 freshman into the Spartan family and we're looking forward to our upcoming Spartan Classic and annual Homecoming celebrations!

We hope to see many alumni at their reunions and in the Alumni Tent at the Homecoming Football Game on Friday, October 3. Homecoming is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, share memories, and see how our school continues to grow. Sign up to join us at the Alumni Tent by September 24, and you'll receive a concession voucher: click here for the form!

If you can't make it this year, please send us an update via email: your engagement/wedding, new baby, and career accomplishments are something we celebrate as one. Go, Spartans!

Calling all Classes from ‘0s and ‘5s – it's time to organize your next reunion! We're here to help, please reach out to start planning your event.

Spartan Classic - Support Tuition Assistance!

While the 36th annual Spartan Classic Golf Outing is sold out, everyone can support our cause of tuition assistance through the silent auction (opens Monday!) or by making a donation online.

Since 2007, the golf outing has provided more than $985,000 in tuition assistance! Thank you to all of our sponsors, attendees, and donors for making this possible. We can't wait to see everyone next Friday!

Spartan Sweethearts

Spartan Sweethearts are couples who met during their time at SFHS and went on to get married. We have more than 190 married couples in our records, and we're sure there are more! If you and your spouse are Spartan Sweethearts, please email jlavigueur@sfhscollegeprep.org with your names and a picture of you "then" and "now."

Alumni Updates

Congratulations Kristen Kelsay '10! Best of luck on your first season as head women’s volleyball coach at Michigan State University - what an amazing accomplishment and true "Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan" story!

Read the Daily Herald article here.

Thank you Krystian Link '07 for coming back to SFHS to visit with Dr. J's Intro to Engineering students. We appreciated you sharing your education and career journey with us!

Spartans teaching Spartans! Pictured is Franco Naccarato '15 teaching Vincent S. '28 during one of their weekly sousaphone lessons. Franco began playing sousaphone early in his high school career at SFHS and then played sousaphone in the band at Xavier University.

Maggie Remus '14 is now an SFHS teacher! She's teaching math, technology, and serving as an Outreach Coordinator in our Admissions Department. She's also continuing as a coach with softball, flag football, and basketball.

At our Faculty and Staff Retreat in August, we welcomed back two alums - Libby Prosch ‘19 and Ella Johnson ‘19. Libby and Ella shared inspiring presentations with us that align with our Faculty-Staff theme of the year, The Path of Life. Thank you both!

Future Spartan Sweethearts! Congratulations to Sydney Leo '19 and Marcus Ingold '19, who got engaged at Cantigny Park on July 3 - the same spot where they took their SFHS senior prom pictures! Both were student-athletes: Sydney played varsity volleyball and Marcus played football, basketball, and volleyball.

Sydney shared with us: "It was such a special day and we owe it all to Mrs. Dougherty! (She was Ms. P to us at the time.) We didn’t have any classes together until our senior year religion class where Ms. P sat us next to each other. We got to know each other during that period and eventually started dating. We did 4 years of long distance during college and are now planning on getting married next year! We just wanted to share because SFHS was such an important part of our love story and we owe the happiness we have now to our time there."

Capital Campaign: Phase 2 and Beyond!

In August, we shared that the second phase of construction in our Progress Can't Wait - Secure Our Future Today Capital Campaign was completed. This phase included college preparatory updates to all 12 North Hallway classrooms, as well as updates to the hallway corridor itself.

We are so grateful to our donors who made this progress possible.

The pictures and our video tour say it all, but just to break it down: these new and improved classrooms are equipped with flexible furniture, advanced technology, modern flooring, and improved storage spaces.

We're excited about the momentum of the campaign and are committed to reaching the goal, which allows us to fund and complete the ambitious vision and essential capital improvements detailed at the onset of the campaign.

If you would like a tour, just email me at tshaw@sfhscollegeprep.org!
