Alumni eNews - September 2024

Kicking off the 2024-25 School Year

The 2024-25 school year has begun! It's been fun having the students back on campus for classes, co-curriculars, and athletics. The activities here are never-ending and I love seeing our students engaged, excited, and ready for another great year.

Speaking of fun, I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at our Spartan Classic on Friday, September 20. This popular event once again sold out quickly on the day ticket sales opened. Thank you to everyone who is joining us or supporting the event through sponsorships! We're ready to raise even more funds for tuition assistance and we'll share some photos and our grand total after the event. If you're interested in sponsoring, just click here.

Homecoming is also right around the corner, with our home football game on Friday, September 27, against Providence Catholic High School. Homecoming is the perfect time to reconnect with old friends, relive those high school days, and cheer on our Spartans. Whether you're thinking about returning for the first time in years or a regular attendee, I hope you'll swing by and celebrate with us.

There will be an alumni tent at the Homecoming Game, and if you RSVP, you'll receive a complimentary T-shirt, $10 food voucher, and free entry to the game! RSVP here - I look forward to seeing you there!

ICYMI: Recently Shared Stories

These stories were recently featured on our social media pages and website. In case you missed it...check it out below!

We are so proud of our three alums who competed in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics - Jeff Jendryk '14 (Men's Volleyball); Kelsey Robinson ‘10 Cook (Women’s Volleyball); and Erin Virtue '01 (Women's Volleyball Coach).

Congratulations to the Men's team on their bronze medal and the women's team on their silver medal! Our watch party celebrating them was featured on NBC5 Chicago and in the Daily Herald.

Stephanie McCleary ‘13 knew she wanted to be a teacher when she was young. She’s now living her dream as a kindergarten teacher at Briar Glen School in Community Consolidated District 89.

Stephanie recently received the District's “Empowers 89” Award, which recognizes “those who do quiet, generous, and extraordinary work.” Congrats, Stephanie!

Justine Izewski ’13 is more than a triple threat: she’s a singer, actor, model – and a teacher.

Recently, she won the title of Miss Metro Chicago and competed in the Miss Illinois USA pageant in May, the preliminaries to Miss USA.

Though she never participated in pageants before, she was drawn to them for the opportunity to advocate for causes she cares about.

Big things are happening at SFHS! We're grateful to everyone who has contributed to our Capital Campaign to support our first summer of construction.

Check out the virtual tour of our Showcase Classroom if you haven't already!

The Showcase Classroom is the first of 18 classrooms to be updated - as you can see, these updates to college preparatory standards are greatly needed! There's more work to be done and we are continuing to raise funds and awareness - see how you can keep the momentum going at sfhscollegeprep.org/progress!

Tim Reist, recently retired social studies teacher at St. Francis High School, passed away on Monday, August 19.

Tim was a member of the SFHS community for 21 years and impacted countless students with his dynamic teaching style, positive attitude, and faith.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the Reists. Read more here.
