Share, teach and learn from others

Maria Montessori once said character education cannot be "taught," it can only be "experienced" by living in an environment that nurtures compassion, respect and community.

Every day MMS, children are gaining the skills that help them work, communicate and celebrate with others and developing a love of learning that will not only elevate their own tomorrows, but lift their community as well.

At Mountaineer Montessori, "character" is not a class, but a way of learning and living.

The MMS Annual Appeal helps fund Montessori credential training and professional development programs, such as Positive Discipline, that enable our staff to create the caring environments and meaningful experiences that nurture the spirit and inspire the best in each child.

The campaign also supports our financial aid program, which elevates our entire school community.

We are so inspired by the wonderful perspectives and contributions of the special people who are a part of our nearly 50-year tradition, and we are thrilled to introduce the Anthony-Reyes family today!

Meet the Anthony-Reyes family:

How did you become part of Montessori and the MMS community?

Our journey with MMS began in 2020 with our oldest daughter. We were already familiar with the Montessori education philosophy and were convinced it was the ideal path for our children. From our very first classroom tour, we felt certain that Mountaineer Montessori School would be the perfect fit for our family.

What has been your experience since then?

For us, the strength of the Mountaineer Montessori community has been the most exceptional part of our experience. 

We have always felt welcome and deeply value that our children are part of a diverse and multicultural environment that mirrors our own family. We are especially moved by how the early education program, with its focus on practical life skills and care of the environment, actively fosters the children’s sense of community and enhances their capacity to share, teach and learn from one another.

Special Montessori moment?

We very much enjoy the social events which allow us to get to know other families such as the ice cream social and end of year picnic. One of our favorites is seeing all of the children’s unique talents in the yearly talent show. We always value the opportunity for the children to share and showcase their own individuality as well as the chance to invite family to share the experience.

What are your hopes for your children and how do you think MMS supports those hopes?

Our core hope is that our children not only enjoy the process of learning but are also self-driven to learn. MMS has consistently demonstrated how a Montessori education powerfully fosters self-discovery and cultivates a genuine passion for knowledge.

We are grateful to MMS for providing an environment that allows our children to continually nourish their inquisitive minds.

Our theme is "Rooted in the Future." What values would you like to take "root" in your children?



We aspire for our children to be kind, compassionate individuals who are deeply invested in their community and serve as leaders in creating a better world. Mountaineer Montessori is instrumental in both planting the seeds of these essential values and continuously cultivating their growth.
