The Impact of Technology on Families

Two identical presentations:
Sunday, February 10 | 11:30 a.m.
Monday, February 11 | 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Alexis Lauricella joins us at two presentations of research and discussion. Hear the research Dr. Lauricella has committed to doing surrounding technology, our families, and our attitudes, then dialogue with other parents about your own thoughts, values, and views on what works best for your family.
WARNING: this  will not  be one of those lectures about how bad screen time is for children!

Instead, it will be a conversation in community about our relationship with technology and how that impacts our families.
We hope you will consider coming to this event…and inviting your friends! The conversation is reliant on having all of your voices in the room, including your children!
Please do not hesitate to contact kClare or Rev. Lisa with questions!
Our Presenter:
Dr. Alexis Lauricella joined Erikson Institute as a tenure-track Assistant Professor and the TEC Center as Director in September 2018. Her research focuses on children’s learning from media technology and parents’ and teachers’ attitudes toward and use of media technology with young children.

Dr. Lauricella is the former Associate Director of Northwestern University’s Center on Media and Human Development. She has an impressive list of publications including empirical research articles in Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Journal of Children and Media, Media Psychology, Journal of Early Adolescence, Journal of Infant Behavior and Development, New Media and Society, Computers and Education, and Public Health.

Dr. Lauricella is also the founder of, a website that translates child-development research for parents .

This is a perfect event to invite friends and neighbors to come to your parish.
Let Your Generosity Be a Spark:
2019 Annual Pledge Campaign
Each year we ask for your promises of financial support for the cost of running the parish. Your pledge gives confidence to our budget planning.

Like sparks, many generous acts work together
to set the fire of God's love in our church.

Prayerfully consider your pledge of support. You may mail in your pledge card, bring it to church on Sunday, February 10, or go online to our website and make a pledge there. However you do it, your contribution supports the gifts of peace, hope and love that Christianity brings to the world.
Blessed are the . . . What is a Blessing?
What Does It Mean to be Blessed?
Sunday, February 17 | 11:30a.m. -1:30 p.m.
We'll discuss The Beatitudes (Matthew 5) in a special workshop directly after church for children aged 8-12. Learn from Rev. Lisa a little about the famous Sermon on the Mount, then explore the Beatitudes (Jesus’ “Blessed are they” statements!) in a more contemporary context!. Let kClare know you’re coming:
Children’s Choir Practice after Worship
Youth Choir & Handbells | February 10 and 24,
March 10
SongPlay Choir | February 17, March 3 and 10
It’s time once again for Sunday Children's Choir! We plan to have fun, learn songs your kids will keep singing during the week, and learn something about music.

This year the choir is split into two groups with different, age-appropriate music, and handbell music in the older choir. The SongPlay Choir is for children Pre-K through 4th grade, and the Youth Choir and Handbells (instruments welcome) is for children in 2nd grade through Middle School.

Parents of preschoolers, you are welcome and encouraged to attend rehearsals with your children. We'll be practicing a variety of songs, and we’ll help lead music in church sometime during Lent.
A Celebration of the Life of Frank Alongi
Frank Alongi passed away on January 21, 2019, at the age of 84. Frank had a beautiful singing voice and loved jazz music. His wife Nanci and grandchildren will miss his presence. We will celebrate his life at St. James the Less on Monday, February 11, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. If you would like to help with the service or reception please let Rev. Lisa know.

Almighty God, our Father in heaven, before whom live all who die: Receive Frank into the courts of your heavenly dwelling place. Let his heart and soul now ring out with joy to you, O Lord. Embrace those who mourn the death of Frank especially Nanci. May they find you present with them in their sorrow at the gate of death, and the comfort of your Peace beyond knowing. Amen.

For those who have died:
O God of grace and glory, we pray to you for those we love, but see no longer. Grant them your peace;  let light perpetual shine upon them; and, in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the good purpose of your perfect will;

We thank you for giving them to us to know and to love as companions on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by the call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
