Always things to learn!

The other day Cyndy and I were in our garage discussing the differences in some of the bikes we have been riding lately. Now Cyndy is an experienced rider and understands many of the mechanical concepts of bikes, but she is not a technician. I found our discussion fun and I loved her interest in the technical side of things.

We talked about throttle control with different engines and control styles including cable operated throttle controls versus ride by wire. The carburetors or fuel injection system are operated by the use of steel cables that pull the throttle open as you turn the grip. Ride by wire operates the injection system by transmitting electrical signals and uses wiring instead of cables.

Our newer bikes are all ride by wire. I showed her my 2010 Harley that has a cable operated throttle control to compare to our other bikes. We were both amazed how different the engines feel when using the throttle. Our discussion included 2-cylinder 1200cc versus the 3-cylinder 900cc motors and how the smoothness of the throttle is different than the cable operated bikes.

We talked for some time, and it was just a blast listening to her views and explaining mine. I guess I’m just saying that talking about motorcycles is one of my favorite things to do and to have my wife participate is awesome!

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and…..
