  • Mazal tov to our Dalet (4th) and Hei (5th) students for leading us so beautifully in Tefillah this past Friday evening Mar 8.
  • Shabbat Family Programming (SFP) will be taking place on Shabbat morning, Mar 16 at 9:30 a.m. and will be different than usual.  The Rabbi and Cantor will be leading a congregational adult retreat and therefore Mr. Marc and I will be moving into the Sanctuary to lead SFP this one time.  There will be a separate adult minyan in the library for those who want a full triennial Torah reading and Haftorah.  We will have special programming led by Morah Lynn Washer and Ms. Diane Rosenfeld in Room 5 for 2nd grade and younger.  Our 3rd grade and older should report to the front rows of the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m.  At 10:15 a.m. the Kindergarten through 2nd Grade students will come to the Sanctuary for the Torah service.  Morah Lynn will provide programming in Room 6 beginning at 10:15 a.m. for those younger than Kindergarten.  Mazal Tov in advance to Liora Appel, Mackenzie Ball, Daniel Bodansky, Daniel Himmelfarb, Jack Himmelfarb, Sophie Himmelfarb, Shayna Kamm, Ben Legator, Orli Maer, Lauri Sender, Naomi Sender, Teddy Sender, Evan Silver-Schack, Arianna Schiff, Tate Tam, Etai Weisberg and Marcus Weller and their families for their Torah chantings.  This week's Torah chanting group ranges in age from 3-17.  Following SFP we will have a delicious lunch in the social hall.  Thank you to those parents who let me know this week that you will not be able to attend so that we will know whom to expect in advance which has a huge impact on how we organize SFP.
  • In the spirit of the Purim holiday, all in attendance are encouraged to come to Am Yisrael dressed in costume on both this Sun Mar 17 and Wed Mar 20.
  • Our Purim Carnival will be taking place this Sun Mar 17.  The entire community should come dressed in costume.  Dalet (4th) and younger will start in their classrooms at 9:15 a.m., Hei (5th) and older will start in the Sanctuary.  The carnival itself will begin after Sunday Morning Minyan at 10:00 a.m. and go until 12:15 p.m.  Here is a link to the evite in case you missed the details:  http://evite.me/jB85VmjVyu
  • Thank you to those who have already paid for the Purim Carnival.   $20 per person covers unlimited activities, a hot dog, a bag of chips, a hamentashen and a drink.  Please RSVP in the Evite (directly above) if you haven't already.    Those who will want food or drink beyond this should bring a few extra dollars.   The Purim Carnival will take place on the lower level and upper level of the SJS building and in the social hall of the synagogue building.  We will not be using the main floor of the school building except for Torah Tots with a Twist (formerly Camp Am Yisrael) in Room 2.
  • As always, we welcome parent/family member volunteers to help out with our Purim Carnival.  The time slots on Sun, Mar 17 are (a) 8:45 a.m.-9:45 a.m. [final set-ups]; (b) 9:45 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; (c) 10:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m.; (d) 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; (e) 12:15 p.m.-1:00 p.m. [clean up].  Please let me know if you are available to help us out and if so, for which slot(s).  Thank you in advance!
  • When Madrichim sign in this Sun Mar 17, they will receive a grid with all assignments for stations they will be helping to lead at the Purim Carnival, as we did last year.
  • Our Purim Megillah reading will be held at 6:45 p.m. on Wed Mar 20.  We will be serving a pizza dinner @$5 per person, for those who turned in their RSVP's beginning at 6:15 p.m.  We will be having regular SJS on Wed Mar 20 from 4:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. as well.
  • Accessing the Purim Megillah Text: Come prepared to our Purim Megillah reading on Wed, Mar 20 with Sefaria on your phone. You can follow along in the Hebrew and/or English, and explore the many bilingual textual interconnections, including Rashi on Megillat Esther.  Download or update the Sefaria Android or iOS app here.

REMIND is set up
We have added our Faculty, Staff, SJS Parents and Madrichim to our   Remind  account.  It is one of the best services used in schools today.  The tagline of the Remind program says it very well: "Reach students and parents where they are: Communication for the classroom, home and everywhere in between."

Torah Tots with a Twist (formerly Camp Am Yisrael)
We have welcomed a new member of our teaching team, Debbie Kroopkin, who leads Torah Tots.  We focus on Shabbat, holidays and Jewish values in a fun, interactive way. We continue to include arts and crafts, snack, singing, movement, story time, and tefillah in our mornings. The one hour program is open to both members and nonmembers. The remainder of the school year is being divided up into two sessions to encourage nonmembers to try it out. Synagogue nonmembers need to sign up on the jbaby website, and members may drop in on any of the following Sundays: March 17; April 7, 14, 28; May 5, 12 and 19

SUPPORTING LEKET ISRAEL:
Written by Kira Friedel

For my Israel/Passion Mitzvah Project I am selling bracelets that will help raise money for Leket Israel! The bracelets say Healthy Food For All. Healthy Food For All means that everyone should be able to access healthy food not just junk food like chips, soda and candy. All proceeds go to Leket Israel. Bracelets cost $3.00 for one bracelet and $5.00 for two bracelets. I will be selling them during SJS.

Facts About Leket Israel
In 2004, 1.426 million people in Israel were hungry; that is 22.4% of the population of Israel. Leket Israel is one of the largest organization in Israel that feed/help the hungry. You can make sandwiches, pick fruits and vegetables and you can come to the warehouse and help move or package things up. They make over 8,000 sandwiches in a day.  HEALTHY FOOD FOR ALL!!!!

SJS CALENDAR REVISED 2-18-19:
