AmCham Vietnam - HCMC Weekly Newsletter

December 23rd, 2025

Update from the Executive Director

Dear ,

On behalf of the AmCham Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City Board Members and Staff, we extend our warmest holiday wishes to all AmCham members and partners. As we reflect on the achievements of 2025, we thank you for your continued support and engagement and wish you a joyful holiday season and a successful year ahead. Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year.

On December 16, 2025, AmCham Vietnam in HCMC held its 31st Annual General Meeting and Members Night, where we reviewed the year’s activities and announced the new Board of Governors. In 2025, we submitted 75 position papers to the government on a wide range of topics, including VAT, food safety, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce, and personal data protection, among others. This represents a 67% increase over last year and more than double the number submitted two years ago. We are delighted that the government adopted an overwhelming number of our recommendations. These advocacy efforts were driven by our members, whose engagement is critical to improving the business environment for everyone.

In addition, AmCham organized 70 events throughout the year, ranging from small, intimate discussions to popular galas and celebrations. We also hosted 65 committee meetings, providing critical business insights and updates across 13 sectors. Membership grew, retention rates improved, and member attrition declined.

We are excited to announce our new 2026 Board, which include Ms. Hang Nguyen, Ms. Van Ly, Mr. Luke Treloar, Mr. Philip Ziter, Mr. Ruben Luengas, Dr. Bob Connolly, Mr. Hao Tran, Mr. Brad Segal, Mr. Ky Nguyen, Mr. Will Sandman, Mr. Vaibhav Bhanchawat, Mr. Mark Gillin, Mr. Marwane Tahri, Ms. Thao Griffiths, and Mr. Thanh Tran.

We would also like to express our deep appreciation to our departing Governors—Mr. Jesse Boone, Ms. Thanh Le, Mr. Michael Nguyen, and Mr. LS Tan—for their commitment, leadership, and valuable contributions to AmCham.

We are proud of our achievements, grateful for our fantastic members, and look forward to an even stronger 2026!

The National Assembly wrapped up its 10th session by approving 51 laws and 39 resolutions aimed at modernizing the economy and governance. Lawmakers advanced major policy changes in technology and transparency. These included:

  • The new E-commerce Law, which is the first comprehensive law on ecommerce in Vietnam.
  • The new Cybersecurity Law, which consolidates the 2018 Cybersecurity Law and the 2015 Law on Network Information Security.
  • The Digital Transformation Law mandates e-governance and secure digital ID systems
  • The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Law sets ethical standards and promotes R&D.

On December 11, Jennifer Wicks McNamara, nominated to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. She emphasized Vietnam’s strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific and outlined her priorities if confirmed: strengthening bilateral relations; security and war legacy programs; economic engagement; human rights advocacy; and cultural and educational exchanges.

Your vote helps shape AmCham Vietnam's future! On December 10, the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Boards unanimously approved a proposed unified AmCham Vietnam Charter. If adopted, it will merge both chapters into a single national chamber with one National Board, with a transition planned through mid-2026.

Members are invited to review the Charter and vote online by 11:59 PM on January 13, 2026. Results will be announced at an online Extraordinary General Meeting on January 15, 2026.
