AmCham Vietnam - HCMC Weekly Newsletter

June 30th, 2026

Update from the Executive Director

Dear ,

AmCham Vietnam Merger

Tomorrow, AmCham Hanoi and AmCham HCMC come together as AmCham Vietnam. One chamber, both cities. The day-to-day of being an AmCham member doesn't change. Your dues stay where they are through your current term. Your committees keep meeting. Connect & Cocktails goes on, the sector roundtables continue, the events you've put on your calendar stay there. Your point of contact at the chamber is the same person you've been talking to all year. What does change is that the rest of the country opens up.

The Hanoi calendar comes with your membership

Embassy briefings, advocacy roundtables, the Mid-Year Outlook, the senior dialogues that have run out of Hanoi for the better part of three decades. From tomorrow, all of it is part of your membership. No separate registration, no second invoice. If you're traveling north for business and you want to be in the room when the U.S. Ambassador speaks at an AmCham event, you can be.

Every national committee opens up

Energy, Healthcare, Capital Markets and Financial Services, the Legal and VBF Liaison group, ESG, Tax and Customs, the others. If a committee has been relevant to your business but was on the Hanoi side, you can now join it.

One voice on advocacy

When the chamber raises a policy issue with the Vietnamese government, on tax, on customs, on energy, on the rules for foreign business, it goes in as the position of American business in Vietnam. One country, one voice. Ministries treat that differently than chapter-level engagement, and it changes what the chamber can actually move.

Practical bits

The newsletter you're reading now keeps coming, same time, same source. From next week the masthead just reads AmCham Vietnam. The AmCham website you already use becomes amchamvietnam.com tomorrow. Same site, updated branding. See you tomorrow!

Help Us Build the AmCham Vietnam Archive

As AmCham Vietnam continues to grow, we are also looking back at the people, companies, events, and moments that helped build our community over the years. We invite members to share old AmCham photos, documents, programs, event materials, or other historical items from the 1990s, early 2000s, or any other period in AmCham’s history.

When submitting, please include any details you have, such as:

· What the photo or document shows

· Where and when it was taken

· Who is pictured, if known

These materials will help us preserve AmCham’s history and share the story of our business community in Vietnam.

Please send submissions to Mr. Brian Le at brian.le@amchamvietnam.com

Reminder: USTR Section 301 IP Investigation – Comments Due July 2

Interested stakeholders have until July 2, 2026 (11:59 p.m. EDT) to submit written comments to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) regarding its Section 301 investigation into Vietnam's intellectual property (IP) protection and enforcement practices. The investigation, initiated on May 29 following Vietnam's designation as a "Priority Foreign Country" in the 2026 Special 301 Report, will assess whether Vietnam's IP-related laws, policies, and enforcement practices are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden U.S. commerce. The outcome of the investigation could lead to future U.S. trade or enforcement actions. Companies and other interested parties wishing to provide input are encouraged to submit comments before the July 2 deadline. A copy of the Federal Register Notice is available here. A docket for comments regarding the investigation will be available here.

Ho Chi Minh City to Mark 50th Naming Anniversary with Major Infrastructure Launches

On July 2, Ho Chi Minh City will celebrate the 50th anniversary of being officially named after President Ho Chi Minh with one of the largest coordinated infrastructure initiatives in its history. The city plans to simultaneously launch 10-13 major projects with a combined investment of more than VND264 trillion (approximately US$10 billion), spanning transport, ports, environmental infrastructure, urban renewal, and social housing. Key projects include the first phase of the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway, the Binh Tien Bridge and Road, the Ho Tram–Long Thanh Airport Urban Expressway, upgrades to seaport infrastructure, and major social housing developments. The package also includes projects aimed at improving flood control, urban connectivity, and logistics capacity to support the city's long-term economic growth. City leaders have described the coordinated groundbreaking ceremonies as a milestone that reflects Ho Chi Minh City's commitment to accelerating public investment, enhancing regional connectivity, and creating a stronger foundation for future domestic and foreign investment. In addition to the groundbreaking ceremonies, the city will hold commemorative events and a 16-location fireworks display on the evening of July 2, highlighting Ho Chi Minh City's continued role as Vietnam's economic growth engine and its long-term development ambitions.

AmCham Vietnam in Washington, D.C.

Last week, AmCham Vietnam was proud to participate in the 2026 AmChams of Asia Pacific Washington Doorknock, where our delegation represented the U.S. business community in Vietnam from June 21–24. Delegates from Pacifico Energy Vietnam, Samtec Vietnam, Arylessence, and Hoffman Iron and Steel, together with AmCham Vietnam, joined business leaders from across the Indo-Pacific for a series of productive meetings with Congressional offices, Administration officials, and policy experts to discuss the future of U.S. trade, investment, and economic engagement in the region.

A particular highlight was our courtesy meeting with H.E. Ambassador Nguyễn Quốc Dũng and the dedicated investment and trade team at the Embassy of Vietnam in Washington, D.C. We sincerely appreciated the opportunity to exchange perspectives on the U.S.-Vietnam commercial relationship and discuss how we can continue working together to strengthen bilateral trade, attract high-quality investment, and support a positive business environment. We look forward to sharing key insights from the Doorknock with our members in the weeks ahead as we continue advancing the U.S.-Vietnam economic partnership.
