Update from the Executive Director


Dear AmCham,

I am proud to announce that in September 2024, AmCham Vietnam - HCMC & Da Nang submitted 10 position papers to the government, spanning a wide range of sectors. AmCham made significant strides advocating for vital topics including Excise Tax, Advertisement, Electricity, Consumer Rights, Customs, and Food Safety. I'd like to thank our Committee leaders and members for raising the AmCham voice to the Government at both the national and provincial levels.


Similarly, we are seeking your valuable input on the Draft Law on Personal Data Protection. This draft law is designed to regulate the collection, processing, and storage of personal data to safeguard individuals' privacy and rights. The deadline for the first round of feedback is October 16, 2024.

The AmCham HCMC 2024 Board of Governor election process has kicked off! The AmCham Vietnam HCMC Nominating Committee is seeking your recommendations for candidates for the AmCham Vietnam HCMC Board of Governors. Voting AmCham members may recommend themselves or another person. There are eight positions open on the Board. The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates willing to actively serve for a two-year term, Jan 2025 - Dec 2026. The recommendation form explains who may recommend/be recommended, the process for recommending and formal nomination, and other important information. The deadline is coming soon -recommendations may be made through Friday, October 11

To honor and recognize excellence in ESG (environmental, social, governance) initiatives and to celebrate AmCham members’ special contributions to positive impact in Vietnam in 2024, AmCham Vietnam – HCMC is organizing the "2024 AmCham Vietnam – HCMC ESG Impact Showcase and Excellence in ESG Impact Awards." We are now seeking applications from members who have started remarkable journeys towards sustainability and are measuring their environmental and social impact. The awards will be presented at the annual Giving Thanks Dinner, on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 1, 2024 (by 5:00 pm).

As you can see in the Upcoming Events section, we have a busy schedule lined up from now until the end of the year. We hope to see you at as many events as possible!


It’s not too early to register for our events this November and December! Join us for the Giving Thanks Dinner – an ESG Impact Showcase & ESG Impact Excellence Awards on November 21 at the Reverie Saigon, and the Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot Golf Tournament on November 28 at the Vietnam Golf & Country Club. Don’t miss our 29th Annual Governors Ball on December 7 at the JW Marriott Saigon, starting at 6:00 PM. Advocacy Update

We thank all members who recently shared their comments on draft legislation currently being discussed.

  • Draft amendments and supplements to Law on Tax Administration: Comments and recommendations have been submitted to the Ministry of Finance.


  • Draft Law on Personal Data Protection: we are seeking comments from members through November 1st. Received comments will be compiled for review by the Digital Economy Committee and the Hanoi chapter before being submitted to the Ministry of Public Security on October 24, 2024.

Members are encouraged to bring forward any advocacy needs or related questions to the relevant Committees, or by email to advocacyaction@amchamvietnam.com.


Similarly, we invite members experiencing instances of administrative delays and challenges to share details via email to communications@amchamvietnam.com. We are compiling this information on behalf of our members.

[Reuters] Vietnam quarterly growth hits two-year high on exports, investment. Vietnam reported its strongest economic growth in two years in the quarter to end-September, as strong exports and industrial production and rising foreign investment offset the effects last month of Asia's strongest typhoon so far this year.

[Bloomberg] Vietnam Sees Tougher Final Quarter After GDP Growth Surprise. Vietnam’s economic growth unexpectedly accelerated last quarter, buoyed by manufacturing and exports before a super typhoon in September caused widespread damage and prompted warnings of a challenging end to the year.

[Vietnam Investment Review] Vietnam reports FDI jump of 11.6 per cent. More than $24.78 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) flowed into Vietnam in the first nine months of 2024, climbing 11.6 per cent on-year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency.
