AmCham HCMC & Danang Weekly Newsletter

September 6th, 2024

Update from the Executive Director

Dear AmCham,

I hope that you have settled back into your routine after celebrating the National Day earlier this week. Last week, I enjoyed meeting so many members at my first Connect & Cocktails event – a huge thank you to Hotel Equatorial HCMC for the lovely venue, and to all our lucky draw Prize Sponsors! We welcomed over 110 people from all different types of businesses, and what I loved is that the environment was friendly, fun, and casual.

AmCham submitted comments from our Members on the Draft Law on Data to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and the Draft Law on Digital Technology Industry to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC). We also submitted comments on the Draft Law on Electricity to the Committee of Science, Technology and Environment of the National Assembly, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Justice, the Government Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thank you to all our Members for providing their feedback and for playing an active role in our advocacy efforts.

I invite you to participate in the Business Climate Survey, conducted by Cimigo on behalf of AmCham Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City & Da Nang. Your valuable insights will help us better understand the current business climate in Vietnam, including its opportunities and challenges. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Keep an eye on your inbox for the survey link!

I wanted to inform our Members that the U.S. Consulate General has invited our Members to attend their annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball on November 1, which celebrates the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps. The ticket includes entry into the ball with a cocktail hour, digital official photos, printed photobooth photos, a ceremony to honor the U.S. Marine Corps, dinner with an open bar, dancing, and a souvenir ball gift. Contact us for more details.

In terms of domestic news, Vietnam is planning to develop green and energy-saving steel products and increase the market share of domestically produced steel to gradually replace imported products; the strategy is expected to be approved in September.

Yours sincerely,

Travis Mitchell

Executive Director
