Consumer Product Safety Training for Buyers and Sourcing Professionals

At New World Hotel Saigon, 76 Le Lai Street, District 1, HCMC


The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will conduct FREE product safety training for buyers and sourcing professionals purchasing textiles/ apparel/ upholstered furniture in Vietnam. The training event will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm on September 13, 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City.


Target groups for this training are resident-in-Vietnam buyers and sourcing professionals who purchase consumer products for major importers located in the United States. Many will be direct employees of U.S. companies. Other potential attendees will be from specialized firms that handle purchasing for large global retailers, as well as from small and medium sized trading companies active in the consumer product export business. English-Vietnamese interpretation will be provided.

AmCham Welcomes City of Oakland Trade Delegation


Mayor Sheng Thao of the City of Oakland led a Trade Delegation to attend a Discussion on "Vietnam-U.S. Trade & Investment" followed by a Cocktail Reception this week at an event sponsored by SEKO Logistics, SSA Marine and Vietnam Waste Solutions at the InterContinental Saigon. Attending the event were Vice Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee Mr. Vo Van Hoan and U.S. Consul General Susan Burns.


Mayor Thao is the first Hmong American Mayor of a major city in the United States. Oakland is home to the 4th largest port in California and the 8th largest port in the U.S. 


Speakers included Mr. David Duong, CEO and President of Vietnam Waste Solutions and Chairman of the Vietnam American Business Association; Mr. Soren Pedersen, Vice President of SSA Marine and member of the Board of Governors of AmCham in HCMC; and Ms. Tram Nguyen, Country General Director of Microsoft Asia Pacific and member of the Board of Governors of AmCham in HCMC. 

AmCham Advocacy Panel welcomes Hoai Nguyen and Net Le


This year AmCham's Advocacy Panel welcomed two new members, Hoai Nguyen, Partner at Russin & Vecchi and Net Le, Partner at LNT & Partners. Advocacy Panel members work on a volunteer basis to review AmCham position papers, speeches and press releases before they are issued. AmCham warmly welcomes Hoai and Net to the Advocacy Panel.

HCMC DOIT invites FIE Retailers to meet on August 17


The Department of Industry & Trade (DOIT) of the HCMC People's Committee cordially invites foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) operating in retail distribution in HCMC to meet from 2:00 - 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 17 online via Zoom or in person at the 1st-floor Hall of the Department of Industry & Trade at 163 Hai Ba Trung Street in District 3. The DOIT seeks to facilitate discussion, hear proposals and receive recommendations concerning retail distribution activities in HCMC by FIEs. 


The meeting agenda includes information about the strategies and development orientation of the trade industry and distribution system in Ho Chi Minh City; a summary of relevant legal regulations regarding the issuance of Business Licenses for retail distribution rights; and an overview of the licensing situation for retail distribution operations of FIEs in the City from 2018 to 2023. The 4th Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum (HEF) is being planned for September 13-17 with the theme "Green Growth - Towards Net Zero".


HEF 2023 promises to be a major international event, with a focus on topics including green growth and the circular economy for megacities; building circular economy ecosystems; and policies for generating green growth towards net zero. We will share more information about the event as the date approaches.
