The AmCham Education and Training Committee will be hosting a conversation to help members understand major changes in Education Law no. 43/2019/QH14 (“Education Law 2019“) and Decree no. 152/2020/ND-CP (“Decree 152“). In addition, participants will explore impacts of these changes on recruitment and retention of foreign experts, while exchanging experiences and scenarios. Through this dialogue, the AmCham Education and Training Committee aims to empower members on this topic, and identify potential areas for further advocacy.

AmCham Danang Update
Greetings from Danang! Children of Vietnam (COV) hosted their 25th Anniversary Gala at Hoiana Resort & Golf in Quang Nam on 9 March 2023. COV and its co-organizing partners, AmCham and Hoiana, hold the event to celebrate the impact the organization has had in central Vietnam. The gala was attended by the Acting Deputy Consul General, Graham Harlow; the Director of Danang Department of Foreign Affairs, Huynh Duc Truong, and more than 30 AmCham members in Danang. Since its establishment in 1998, COV has served tens of thousands of children in Danang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai by providing access to education, health, clean water, nutrition, and housing.

Residents of Danang, save yourself the trip to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi! Representatives from the American Citizen Services unit of the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will be in Danang at Six on Six Café, 64 Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Bac My An, Ngu Hanh Son, Danang on Friday, March 24th from 9:30am to 11:00am for an Acceptance Event. We will accept passport applications and perform notarial services.

Please note that these services are by appointment only and customers must pay with exact change. We will only be accepting passport applications and providing notarial services during this event. If you are eligible for the Passport Renewal by Mail program, you can also drop off your application at the event. Trade Winds delegation visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Trade Winds is the largest U.S. government-led Trade Mission and business development forum. The current Trade Winds Forum, which is organized by the U.S. Commercial Service, is being held in Bangkok on March 13-15. In the run-up to the Bangkok Forum, the Trade Winds team visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to gain a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges for U.S. businesses in Vietnam. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago met with AmCham members in Hanoi. U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns hosted a reception for the Trade Winds delegation to meet AmCham members and other key stakeholders.

During her visit, Under Secretary Lago highlighted supply chain resiliency, and clean energy and climate technology, as the Department of Commerce’s areas of focus as part of the U.S.’s Indo-Pacific Strategy launched in early 2022. More specifically, she acknowledged the need for improved communications as part of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), emphasizing that “IPEF is about U.S. reengagement with the region." Under Secretary Lago also said Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) is central to the Department of Commerce’s actions, citing the Women’s Global Trade Empowerment program as an example.
