Dear AmCham,

AmCham would like to extend its heartfelt congratulations to the people of Vietnam on the occasion of Reunification Day. Fifty years after the end of the war, Vietnam stands as a peaceful, increasingly prosperous, and unified nation. The focus on the future and the common desire for prosperity not only united those within Vietnam but also contributed to the reconciliation between Vietnam and the United States. Commerce was the wedge that opened the door for all other elements of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship and led to one of the great foreign relations success stories in modern history. AmCham is proud to continue to play a role in enhancing trade and commerce between the two nations. Please note that the AmCham office will be closed for the holiday from April 30th to May 2nd. We will resume regular operations on Monday, May 5th.

I would like to direct your attention to AmCham’s responses to the Trump Administration’s tariffs. We have compiled what AmCham has been doing, and we will continually update this section. I appreciate all our members for reaching out and sharing their stories.

Contributions to the Draft Law on Special Consumption Tax (Amended): Comments and recommendations have been submitted to His Excellency Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man Minister of Industry & Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on April 21, 2025.

Draft Amendments to the Law on Product and Goods Quality create many trade barriers: Comments and recommendations have been submitted to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment Le Quang Huy, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Office of the General Secretary, Prime Minister's Task Force on Administrative Procedure Reform and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam on April 22, 2025.

Comments on the Draft Decree detailed to implement a number of Articles of the Pharmacy Law (Draft on April 3, 2025): Comments and recommendations have been submitted to the Ministry of Justice and the Office of Government on April 24, 2025.

[Vietnam Investment Review] US calls tariff talks with Vietnam productive. US Trade Representative Jamieson L. Greer and Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Nguyen Hong Dien agreed on the importance of making swift progress towards reciprocal and balanced trade between the US and Vietnam.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held a productive virtual meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart in which they agreed on the importance of making swift progress on reciprocal trade, his office said in a statement on Thursday.

[VNExpress] World Bank forecasts Vietnam GDP growth at 5.8% in 2025. Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth is forecast to moderate to 5.8% in 2025 due to increased trade policy uncertainty, according to the World Bank (WB)'s latest East Asia and Pacific Economic Update.

Many Asian central banks have room to ease monetary policy to cushion the blow to their economies from U.S. tariffs, a senior International Monetary Fund official said on Thursday, after the fund cut its GDP estimates for the export-driven region.

Flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is close to finalising a provisional order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX jets that it made in 2023, industry sources said, as it signed a funding arrangement for 50 single-aisle planes on Thursday.
