Dear AmCham,

AmCham Request for help - How will the tariffs impact American consumers? Last week, President Trump placed a 46% tariff rate on goods from Vietnam, which shocked business leaders and government officials. AmCham immediately called for an emergency meeting with our manufacturing and logistics members, and we summarized the impacts and sent them directly to the US Trade Representative, US Embassy, US Consulate General, and US Chamber of Commerce. 

Now, I need your help. I want to tell the true story of how these tariffs will impact Americans, as multiple media outlets are requesting information. How much will the cost of certain goods, like tshirts, shoes, patio furniture, bags, prom dresses, etc increase? Will Americans have fewer choices? The more concrete information I have, the stronger the impact the story will have. I hope that these stories will resonate with the American public, who will realize how these tariffs will negatively impact them directly.

Please email me as soon as possible with your own experience. I will not use any company names to protect your anonymity, so now is your chance to be truthful without fear of retribution.

On April 1st, AmCham Vietnam supported the Supplier Summit organized by Intel Vietnam in partnership with Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP). This important event aimed to strengthen Vietnam’s semiconductor supply chain and boost the capabilities of local suppliers.

1. The 3rd Draft decree amending and supplementing Decree 15/2025/ND-CP: Comments and recommendations have been submitted to Prime Minister, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Mar 20, 2025 

2. Draft Law Amending Certain Provisions of the Law on Standard and Technical Standard: Comments and recommendations have been submitted to the National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, Commission for the Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ), Ministry of Science and Technology on Mar 20, 2025.

3. Draft Law Amending and Supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Advertising 2012: Comments and recommendations have been submitted to The Culture and Society Committee, The National Assembly on Mar 27, 2025.

At a quarterly press briefing on April 3, the Ministry of Finance expressed concern over the U.S. decision to impose a 46% retaliatory tariff on Vietnamese goods, warning that the steep rate will negatively affect several major export industries, including electronics, textiles, agriculture, and footwear.

[Saigon Giai Phong News] Vietnam to seek US tariff postponement to serve negotiations. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the negotiation delegation to propose the US consider postponing the imposition of the new tariff policy for at least 45 days so that the two sides have more time to discuss and prepare for status transition.

[VNExpres] Vietnam to step up US tariff talks while keeping spirit of 'no fear': PM Chinh. Vietnam will be affected by the U.S.’s new tariffs but will respond by stepping up negotiations and while maintaining a spirit of “no panic, confusion, or fear," said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
