We hope you are staying safe and enjoying the slightly cooler weather after the storm. I love to see the flowers after the rain. I did NOT love the frog in my kitchen the other morning…

We are delighted to welcome Pharmacity as a new AmCham Vietnam Gold Corporate Sponsor. If you are interested in increasing the profile of your brand and contributing strategically to AmCham’s mission, we would be happy to customize a benefits package aligned with your priorities. LINK
Upcoming events: We are excited about our Chairman’s Circle Dinner this week, an exclusive invite-only event designed for our Diamond and Gold Corporate Sponsors, members of our Boards of Governors, and former Chairs. The Dinner will feature an off-the-record, closed-door session with industry and healthcare experts on the COVID Virus, Variants, and Vaccines at a five-star hotel. The evening begins with an outdoor poolside networking reception with a Red Apron sommelier featuring U.S. wines, followed by discussion over an elegant plated dinner. Participation is limited both to ensure a candid exchange – and to maintain current social distancing restrictions. We are planning a public event on the same topic the week of May 24th – stay tuned!
We are partnering with the Italian Chamber for a virtual event Tuesday morning on Vietnam’s new Securities Law. It may be even more important with PM support for promoting HCMC as a regional and international financial center (see media articles).
We hope many of you will join our Wednesday morning virtual event on Facilitating Foreign Expert Travel (and Return) to Vietnam. We have an impressive panel of experts including one frequent traveler now on post-COVID trip #5! LINK
We also hope many will join our Digital Economy and Technology Committee meeting Tuesday at 9AM, where we will discuss plans for a Digital Transformation series, including an AmCham “tech makeover”. We also look forward to seeing many friends at our Healthcare Committee, HR Committee, and Agriculture Committee meetings this week!
And apply now until May 21 to be considered for the first batch starting June 1 of a Women Leadership Skills Bridge series by Thai Van Linh!
Recent Events and Developments: Last week, members of our Board had a productive meeting with leadership of KOCHAM and JCCH. We look forward to partnering, particularly on Work Permits for Foreigners and Enabling a Safe Reopening.
Our Energy Committee featured an interesting presentation by Clime Capital Country Manager Quynh Chi Trinh, while our ESG Committee featured an insightful briefing by Consulate Deputy Principal Officer Robert Greenan on USG environmental initiatives. Many thanks to our speakers and Committee leaders! We continue to be at Level III for hybrid meetings, so be prepared to wear masks if you come in person.

Farewell: Finally, we are saying farewell to AmCham Vietnam Strategic Advisor (and former AmCham Vietnam Chair and Board Member in HCMC, Hanoi, and Da Nang and Coca-Cola Southeast Asia Director for Legal and Public Affairs) Ly Le. Ly has contributed greatly to AmCham in so many ways over the years. She is ending her interim position at AmCham to travel to the United States early next week to accompany her sons, who will study there. The good news is she plans to return to HCMC later this summer and will be using her expertise to provide consulting services to some of our member companies!
We welcome your feedback at team@amchamvietnam.com to let us know how we can serve you better. We wish you a safe and restful weekend! Mary

Greetings from Da Nang and I hope you are all staying safe and healthy! I know there has been a lot of reports in the news about new cases of COVID in Da Nang. While that is true and most non-essential services have been closed to prevent the spread of the virus, I can inform you that people are still free to go around the city, exercise, even to work in some instances. Bottom line, we are not in a complete lockdown as some may imagine and the government once again is taking all the necessary precautions and swift action to prevent the disease from spreading. Da Nang people are resilient and vigilant and we have lived through the more severe six-week lockdown last year and came back strong before this new outbreak emerged. We will do so once again and this time we will be even stronger and more resolute for doing so. Everyone stay safe, stay healthy, and stay vigilant about your movements and actions!
