Summer 2022 Newsletter
Letter from our Director
Rachelle Saldate
As we reach the end of the summer semester, Amador College Connect remains busy, enrolling students for the upcoming fall term. We are excited to continue bringing higher education opportunities to the residents of Amador County and the surrounding area through our collaboration with Coastline, Foothill, and Columbia Colleges, as well as Arizona State University. We also have the largest population of high school students taking college classes that we have ever had, thanks to our partnership with Amador County Unified School District.

Additionally, we provide financial aid and scholarship assistance to many of our students. Scholarships are available for qualifying students in the areas of child development through First 5 Amador and Columbia College, and in human services through a partnership with the Amador County Behavioral Health Department. Scholarships are also available for eligible employees of the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort. We are especially excited to feature (below) two of our current students, Summer Forrest and Allis Bronken, who have received generous scholarships from the Sutter Creek Woman’s Club!

While Amador College Connect remains committed to ensuring the safety of our staff and students by offering both in-person and virtual formats for appointments and meetings, we are excited to be holding a barn dinner and dance fundraiser on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Laughton Ranch in Jackson. Funds from this event will allow us to maintain free, one-on-one support for college application and enrollment assistance, peer mentoring, tutoring, exam proctoring, computer and internet access, and more. Please call our center or visit our website for additional information.

Columbia College Offers FREE Tuition This Fall!

Columbia College is generously extending its FREE tuition offer for the upcoming fall semester! Here at the center, we currently have over 35 active students attending online classes with Columbia. About half of them are Amador County high school dual enrollment students, and they all agree that Columbia College offers an impressive array of relevant courses that are taught by outstanding instructors.

High Schoolers are Going to College!
Since January 2022, over 50 high school students from Argonaut, Amador, Independence, North Star, and Mountain Oaks have enrolled for summer and fall classes at Columbia, Coastline, and Foothill colleges.

Argonaut senior, Savannah Allgeyer (left), is currently finishing up her English 100 class this summer with Coastline Community College. She is taking this course in lieu of AP English 12 as a way to free up her busy schedule. She is interested in attending Doane University in Nebraska after she graduates, where she is planning to major in environmental engineering. To jumpstart the process, Savannah is also registered to take Ecology 100 this fall with Coastline. These two college classes will give her a total of 20 high-school units, plus the honors bump!

Savannah said that she highly recommends Amador College Connect as it offers a nonthreatening environment and is easy to work with. She has been advising her underclassman friends to get signed up as well.

Way to go, Savannah!
