Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
-
The cost of Xcel Energy’s power pathway in eastern Colorado, which will provide wind and solar energy to the Front Range, has just gone up. It seems that, in their estimates, they forgot to include the cost of the transmission lines. If this were a private sector company, they’d go out of business for such as stupid oversight. But, since it’s a government enterprise, they’ll just bleed taxpayers and ratepayers for the extra money. Easy peasy.
-
This week in “Government Sees You as Their ATM”, as you’ve probably noticed, property taxes are rising after legislators and the Colorado Supreme Court removed school district property taxes from TABOR protection. They are supposed to work for you, but they don’t. They work for them.
-
Though the west side of Colorado Springs is already being overrun by vagrants, an apartment complex for homeless youth is being built in the area, despite zoning issues. Zoning laws are for the little people.
-
Here is an accounting of how much money was donated to Colorado Springs mayoral candidates. It was quite a bit.
-
Also in mayoral candidate news, Mayor Mobolade and Wayne Williams are now friends. They want you to get involved! We welcome you to show your involvement by supporting your humble watchdogs at Springs Taxpayers United, so we can keep reporting on government shenanigans.
-
It has been decided that the proposed Amara annexation near Fountain, Colorado now meets the new water requirements adopted by Colorado Springs City Council.
-
Colorado Springs Utilities is promoting a rate decrease. Part of this is due to a reduced demand for natural gas heating. The average savings will be $7, which you can put toward your gigantic property tax increase.
-
New El Paso County districts are still being considered. There are several different maps being proposed.
-
If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.
Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more!
If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our You Tube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tri-pod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.
If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
