This Sunday we will celebrate Lutheran Schools Sunday as Grace Lutheran School begins their Lutheran Schools Week festivities which will run through the end of the week.
GLS students will serve as readers and acolytes during both services this Sunday, and there will be a video from our 5th grade students. If you'll be attending worship on Sunday, please make sure to pick up one of the prayer rocks painted by our students.
Special Offering: In keeping with their theme "Celebrating the Sanctity of Life from Cradle to Grave", GLS is seeking donations to provide an Amazon Fire tablet for 9 seniors who reside at the Genesis Care Facility here in La Plata. These 9 seniors are lacking the human interaction and comfort that families and friends usually give. Since the day they were moved into the facility, they have not had one visitor or phone call. The Lutheran Schools Week committee has been in contact with a representative from the Genesis and an Amazon Fire tablet was suggested. The therapeutic recreation staff would be able to facilitate participation and activities straight from their own desktops. Since most residents' interests differ, it's easy to download specific apps that accommodate each of their own preferences. Please consider a monetary donation specifically for the purpose of providing tablets. This special offering will be collected January 23rd and 30th. Checks should be made out to "Grace Lutheran School" with "Senior Tablet" in the memo section. Chapel offerings on Wednesday, January 26 will also go towards the purchase of these tablets.
GLS chapel offerings for January have been designated for the Catherine Foundation. They are also filling a pack & play with baby items and will deliver this gift to the Catherine Foundation once it is full.

Baby Bottle Boomerang Supports Catherine Foundation
Since 1984, the 3rd Sunday in January has been designated as Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Grace Lutheran will celebrate Sanctity Sunday by participating in the Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser for the Catherine Foundation.
The Catherine Foundation is a non-profit, Christian based pregnancy resource center in Waldorf, and offers free and confidential testing, counseling, classes, information and resources.
To participate - pick up a baby bottle located in the narthex outside the sanctuary and in the family life center. Take it home and fill it with change, cash and/or checks (checks should be made payable to the Catherine Foundation). Bottles are due back to Grace on or before Sunday, February 13 (leave the bottles in the church office or with an usher).
Grace Lutheran School's January chapel offerings have also been designated for the Catherine Foundation.

Beginning January 23, come prepared to have your picture taken. Dianne Shisler has volunteered to take pictures of members and friends who worship at Grace Lutheran Church. These photos will be posted on the wall outside the adult Sunday School room. Once pictures begin appearing, we encourage you to stop by and see the many faces of Grace - some may be familiar and some may not.

Grace Lutheran Youth are are collecting aluminum cans and recycling them to earn money for youth trips. You can help by saving your cans and placing them in the designated area in the dumpster.
At the back of the dumpster is an opening for you to deposit your cans. To better assist the youth with their project, please
-
if at all possible, crush your cans or use the can crusher on the back of the dumpster. The recycling center pays more if the cans are already crushed.
-
no bags allowed. Please empty aluminum cans only into the designated receptacle at the back of the dumpster.

Whether it's filling up your tank, doing your grocery shopping, getting your morning coffee, DIY projects around the house, family pizza night or a date night, purchasing gift cards for these everyday items will increase the amount our youth are able to raise for their trip to Houston, TX next year.
Download the RaiseRight app on your phone or go to ShopwithScrip.com on your computer. Use enrollment code 7C2E77CE1268 and for every card you purchase our youth will earn the percentage indicated. It might not seem like much, but the more people who participate, the more our youth can earn.
