The American Rescue Plan, signed into law on March 11, 2021,
expanded the Child Tax Credit for 2021.
For those with children, the American Rescue Plan
increased the Child Tax Credit from
$2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six
and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six,
and raised the age limit from 16 to 17.
All working families will get the full credit if
they make up to $150,000 for a couple or
$112,500 for a family with a single parent
(also called Head of Household).
Starting on Thursday, July 15, nearly all working families in the United States will start receiving their Child Tax Credit.

New VA Home in Enterprise to be Called
CSM Bennie Adkins Veterans Home
|
Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie Adkins Veterans Home is the name of the state’s newest Veterans home. The VA home is named after former Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins,
a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.
At an Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs public meeting held July 9 at the Enterprise Civic Center, the SBVA unanimously selected the name for the new 182,000 square feet facility that will house 175 residents. The SBVA was welcomed by City of Enterprise and Coffee County officials Thursday, July 8, ahead of the July 9 quarterly SBVA board meeting.
Enterprise Mayor William E. Cooper and other local officials joined the SBVA and representatives from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs for a meeting at Fort Rucker with United States Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker Commanding General Maj. Gen. David Francis, Deputy to the USAACE and Fort Rucker Commanding General William G. Kidd, and Fort Rucker Chief of Staff Col. Whitney Gardner.
The group then toured the United States Army Aviation Museum on post.
Enterprise was chosen as the location of the home largely because of the considerable veteran population in Coffee County.

Fort Rucker Expanding
Army Aviation Museum
|
Dirt is moving and walls are going up as the Fort Rucker Army Aviation museum is working on expanding. An expansion that will serve many purposes. One being to continue to the mission of training on Fort Rucker.
“318 feet deep 220 feet wide and about 83 feet high.” That’s the size of the new addition to the Fort Rucker Army Aviation museum.
“A building we call a training support facility it will be designed to train soldiers in the technologies of the Army Aviation,”
said Robert Mitchell – Director of Army Aviation Museum.
Extra space will be filled with artifacts to continue their
mission of training army aviators.

A true Fort Rucker icon is celebrating its
60th year of being on post
|
He stands as an emblem of the 2nd Battalion 31st Infantry Regiment. “He was to commemorate their actions in WWI when they went over to Russia to help and keep the Trans-Siberian Railroad open during WWI,” said Chris Mendez –
Marketing Manager Fort Rucker MWR.
Deeming the nickname, the polar bears.
Now 60 years later, Fort Rucker and SGT Ted E Bear are celebrating his presence. “He was originally commissioned in 1961,” said Mendez. Moving up in rank throughout the years. “Our polar bear here was promoted to PFC in 1997 and received his new rank of SGT in 2007,” said Mendez.
Standing at over 15 feet tall and weighting in at 2,000 pounds,
SGT Ted E Bear guards Fort Rucker and those who travel through. “He was originally located over on Ruff Ave but now dons the corners of Andrews and Novosal right across the street from the aviation museum,” said Mendez.
