Review: Affordable Housing Plan (Amended)

The amended Housing Element of the Master Plan and Fair Share Plan, commonly known as the township’s affordable housing plan, will be published on the township website on Friday, Feb. 13. Residents are encouraged to read and review the plan prior to the formal public hearing scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23.

The planning board held an informational session on Monday, Feb. 9 to present the amended plan. Residents can view that meeting here .

Celebrate Douglass Day with SSAAM

Douglass Day is a national celebration honoring Fredrick Douglass and his legacy as an abolitionist, intellectual, and advocate for justice. Each year, communities come together to build free, public resources that expand access to Black history.

Our friends at the Stoutsburg-Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) are hosting a transcribe-a-thon focused on records from the historic Colored Conventions movement to celebrate the day. Participants are invited to help make these important documents accessible to the public and enjoy a cake-cutting ceremony. The event will be held at the SSAAM Center at 189 Hollow Rd., Skillman, NJ. Learn more and register for the event here. The events are free to attend.

Do You Love to Hike?

Montgomery Friends of Open Space is hosting a guided hike of the beautiful Skillman Park on Sunday, Feb. 15. Participants will meet at parking lot D, located off Burnt Hill Rd. on Main Blvd., Skillman, NJ. The hike will be on a cleared, paved pathway with flat terrain that loops around the park. The length of the hike will be determined by participant level.

Participants will explore the varied habitats of Skillman Park, walking past hedgerows, open meadows, brooks, and forested areas. The walk will be led by a Skillman local who will discuss the history of the property. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Online applications for annual dog and cat licenses are still open. Licensing can be completed at the next free rabies clinics on Saturday, Feb.21 at Otto Kaufman Community Center. Find more information on licensing here and contact the clerk’s office with questions at (908) 533-9188.

The Montgomery Departments of Health and Planning have activated a community transportation needs survey to better understand how residents travel, where service gaps exist, and how we can improve mobility for everyone. Take the survey here.
