Wondering What it's Like to be a
Prevention Corps Member?
My experience as an AmeriCorps Prevention Corps member has been impactful in both my personal and professional life. Through my opportunity as a Preventions Corps member serving at The Hub, I have been able to host Narcan trainings and Lunch & Learn events as well as work with many organizations and community members towards combatting the Opioid Epidemic. I have also been able to organize and advocate for mental health awareness and education. These experiences and this work is meaningful to me because I have an opportunity to help others in an influential way. I am able to show my love, dedication, and care to my communities while also learning so much about work ethic, the macro system of care, and overall, becoming more educated about mental health and prevention through my professional support system, workshops, and trainings. This experience has significantly changed my life and will be unforgettable. If you are given a chance to serve as a Prevention Corps member, take it! This is an opportunity to learn while serving in the field, gain connections through organizations, and create important change in your community.

Overdose Deaths in Connecticut Have Significantly Increased
According to data from the state Department of Public Health, there have already been 547 confirmed overdose deaths in Connecticut in the first six months of the year, with an additional 383 cases pending confirmation. This is a significant increase from last year. Xylazine, an animal tranquilizer not intended for use in humans, mixed with fentanyl is also on the rise. In 2020, 141 people died from the combination of Xylazine and Fentanyl. Even though Fairfield County had the lowest rates of drug overdoses we still need to be cautious and provide as much support to our community residents at large. Read full article.
