Celebrate Mainers who step up! Nominations open for annual Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism until June 30
The COVID-19 public health emergency has shined a light on those who have selflessly stepped up to help their fellow Mainers. The Governor's Awards for Service and Volunteerism program is an opportunity to recognize the efforts of individuals, teams and organizations across the state who have answered the call to help Maine communities.
We're seeking nominations for all categories of the 34th edition of this annual celebration. The goal of these awards is to celebrate and honor the exemplary work and leadership of Maine's dedicated citizens of all age.

Carol Christopoulos, a member of the Penquis Foster Grandparent Senior Corps program, shares the heartwarming story of how she adapted to serving during COVID-19 by utilizing a video chat service to continue reading to a classroom of students. Carol also shares why it's important for her to continue volunteering and explains why she hopes others will consider joining a Senior Corps program.

Volunteer Maine awards 5 agencies VGF grants, 3 agencies with additional COVID-19 support funds
The efforts of five community agencies in Maine have been bolstered by Volunteer Generation Fund (VGF) grant awards.
Two-of-the-five agencies, Alfond Youth and Community Center (AYCC) and Catholic Charities Maine, have received funding to start new volunteer programs through the Maine VGF initiative. Three-of-the-five – Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, Southern Maine Agency on Aging, and Catholic Charities Maine – have also been awarded an additional $10,000 in funds to support the need for surge services related to the COVID-19 health emergency.
