For the last 25 years, the SS United States has made her home in South Philadelphia, where she waits for her much-deserved second act. As the Conservancy works to preserve the ship for future generations, we are raising awareness about this magnificent vessel.

We were delighted to welcome aboard the team from the popular WHYY-TV series, You Oughta Know , who visited the SS United States to shoot beautiful footage of the ship, along with commentary from Conservancy President Susan Gibbs. The resulting segment explores the historical significance of America's Flagship, how she made her way to Philadelphia, and the Conservancy's mission to save her.

The story of the SS United States is a story of our nation’s triumphant emergence after the trauma of World War II; of people, from small towns to big cities, setting out on life-changing journeys to distant shores; of immigrants crossing the Atlantic in order to build a new life. Help us continue to tell the story of the Big U by ordering a limited-edition T-shirt or tank top, featuring the sleek mid-century modern-inspired design by Greg Shutters.

MORE FROM THE SS UNITED STATES CONSERVANCY
As the SS United States Conservancy’s partnership with RXR Realty continues to advance, we are laying the groundwork for our future shipboard museum. We have achieved this exciting progress because of your enthusiasm and engagement, and we remain so grateful for your generosity and continued support. Now, we are eager to involve you in this next phase of our curatorial process and invite you to take our brief survey, which will help guide us as we advance our museum planning. But make sure to act soon — we'll begin compiling the results of this survey at the end of this month.

As July draws to a close, we would like to express our gratitude to all who helped make our recent virtual events such a success. Between our Gala 68 Online Auction and our star-studded virtual gala, we were able to raise significant interest, awareness, and funds for the Big U. We hope to hold more virtual events in the future, including the fourth (and final) round of our Online Auction. If you missed our virtual gala, fear not: you can stream it for FREE at the link below.

THE BIG U CONTINUES TO INSPIRE...
"The ship now is not pleasing to look at, because she's been tied up to a pier for over 25 years. But the hull is 98% intact. Once those stacks are painted, and the lights go on, she'll be again the most beautiful ship in the world." — Joe Rota, former SS United States crew member and Founding Board Member of the Conservancy
