Grant and Scholarship Opportunities

CIVME Grant Program Accepting Applications

 

The Council on International Veterinary Medical Education (CIVME) is an initiative of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), which intends to promote and share best practices in veterinary medical education around the world. The CIVME Research Grant is open and will receive applications through December 6th, 2024.


To foster international collaboration, applications must represent at least 3 different regions. If you are an applicant and want to find collaborators or would be interested in collaborating on a CIVME grant project use the CIVME Learning Community to reach out to other educators. To do so please use the Project Ideas and Collaboration Requests Discussion Forum within the Funding & Publication Opportunities Tile.

The announcement of selected grantees will be made at the 2024 AAVMC Annual Conference in Washington, DC.


Open Scholarship Opportunities


  • The Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program recognizes second-year veterinary students from underserved groups who have shown an interest in and affinity for growing leadership capabilities. Individuals selected for the program will receive financial assistance as well as resources to support them through their final years of veterinary school and into the next phase of their careers.15 students will be selected for the 2025 Chewy Veterinary Leaders cohort and awarded a $20,000 scholarship distributed over one year ($10,000 per semester), paid directly to the institution and applied to the students Fall 2025 & Fall 2026 semesters. Each Full US AAVMC Institutional Member may nominate one (1) eligible student for the Chewy Veterinary Leaders Program.  Nominations will be accepted through November 4th, 2024.


  • The Merck Animal Health Diversity Leadership Scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated a record of contributing to enhancing diversity and inclusion at a Full US AAVMC member Institution. The scholarship honors students who have been consistent champions of addressing inequities and underrepresentation in the veterinary profession, have advocated for social justice, and have advanced valuing diversity and inclusion at a Full US AAVMC Member Institution. Up to 16 scholarships will be awarded; each scholar will be awarded a one-time payment in the amount of $10,000 paid directly to the institution and applied to the student's Fall 2025 semester. Nominations will be accepted through November 4th, 2024.


  • The AAVMC Patricia M. Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship recognizes veterinary students who have demonstrated exemplary promise as future leaders and have made significant contributions to enhancing diversity and inclusion in academic veterinary medicine. The awardee of the Lowrie Diversity Leadership Scholarship will only be selected from the Merck Animal Health Diversity Scholarship nominations pool. Each scholarship will be awarded a one-time payment in the amount of $6,000 paid directly to the institution and applied to the student's Fall 2025 semester. Nominations will be accepted through November 4th, 2024.


  • The Zoetis Foundation/AAVMC Veterinary Student Scholarship Program application period is also coming up. This scholarship program will provide financial support to veterinary students, addressing the issue of student debt and the need to foster diversity in the veterinary profession. More than 200 scholarships worth $7,000 will be awarded to students at US & Caribbean AAVMC member institutions. Applications will be accepted through December 9th, 2024.

Spectrum of Care

October Meeting of Spectrum of Care Initiative

 

The AAVMC Spectrum of Care Initiative working group had a productive meeting at The Ohio State University! The group continued to work on materials to support veterinary education programs seeking to enhance their spectrum of care preparation. We also had rich discussions with PCVE attendees during the Swap Shop session on the successes and challenges of teaching SOC in clinical rotations.
